Simple question, Is that true or false? He basically had just as much, if not more potential than Michael Jordan did.

Can Barkley be labeled an underachiever, even with the monster numbers?

I dont think so, if not for Jordan he'd have had at least 1 ring.

I think there's an underachieving gene in that family...

kinda hilarious how we were gonna trade for VC with T-Mac.

I don't know if I'd go that far.

It might be argued that Jordan overachieved, if anything.

T-Mac civil war breaks out in the Dish in 3...2....1. And yeah, I would say Vince isn't as bad as his cousin.

Very possible that it's fact. VC is a great example to use as a counterargument to anybody that thinks intangibles in the world of sports are overrated. Talentwise, he's every bit as good and capable as Kobe. It just kind of goes without saying that Kobe has that fire, that extra edge and ability to close out games that VC never had.

Chris Webber is another classic underachiever case if we're going by recent history.

i think carter has gotten a lot of out his talent. he's not that great a ball handler but he averages very good assists numbers. he came to NC as a dunker and built a very reliable jump shot.

Iverson isn't an underacheiver, he just doesn't know how to play the game in an NBA system. He works his ass off, and he's very skilled, but he just doesn't know how to win games.

Jordan's jumshot was automatic, VC never had that.
Jordan was never a dribbler, rather a slasher.
All other stuff like personality, defense all sum up to the potential.
So no, VC was not jordanlike potential.

Derrick Coleman--classic underachiever. WAY worse than VC and closer to "biggest of all time"

Carter never had an automatic jumper, but he never worked as hard at it as Jordan did, either (few do). Jordan worked hard to improve his game every year. Carter did not. Jordan came in as a guy who drove to the hoop every time he touched the ball. Over the years, he added an unstoppable midrange game, the bump and fade, and a fantastic post-up game. Did Vince Carter have the potential to add those things to his game? Athletically, sure. Carter was a freak athlete of Jordan's caliber. But he never had the mental game that Jordan had, the NEED to win. Again, few do.
