A meme floating around on Facebook has a list of books supposedly (but probably not) produced by the BBC. And, the BBC allegedly (but probably not) says that most people have read 6 of these books. So, even though it's probably BS, let's see how many of this random list of books you've read.

Their instructions say to put an X next to the ones you've read, a + next to the ones you loved, an asterisk next to the ones you want to read. I'll add a - to the ones you hated and a % to the ones you saw the movie of.

But, all that is pretty cumbersome, so I'll add a poll.

    1. The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien
    2. Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
    3. His Dark Materials, Philip Pullman
    4. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams

I have read 26 of those listed, if you count LOTR as one book (which it was originally intended to be). There several more on this list I'd love to read.

    1. The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien X % +
    4. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams X % + (Hated the movie, though)
    5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, JK Rowling X % +
    6. To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee X +
    9. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, CS Lewis X +
    15. The Catcher in the Rye, JD Salinger X
    16. The Wind in the Willows, Kenneth Grahame X %
    22. Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone, JK Rowling X % +

    36. Treasure Island, Robert Louis Stevenson X +
    39. Dune, Frank Herbert X +
    41. Anne Of Green Gables, LM Montgomery X
    44. The Count Of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas X % +

    51. The Secret Garden, Frances Hodgson Burnett X
    52. Of Mice And Men, John Steinbeck X +
    53. The Stand, Stephen King X +
    58. Black Beauty, Anna Sewell X
    60. Crime And Punishment, Fyodor Dostoyevsky X +
    70. Lord Of The Flies, William Golding X +

So, the totals are 23 of the books have been read, loved 17 of those and saw the movie for 10 of them.

Having that many Harry Potter books is a good way to make the statement that everyone has read 6 of those books. The people that turn their nose up to the Harry Potter books have probably read a lot more of the classics on that list. Those that read one Harry Potter book likely read at least one or two more. Then there are those books that everyone has to read in High School.

    22. There are a lot of kid-level books so that knocked off a big chunk. There are some others I know nothing about. Terry Pratchett is a name I have never heard, for example, and appears multiple times.
