[FA from the bargain bin] CJ Miles (aka the only Jazz we would want, actually)

I like many (or most) of you hate the Jazz. But I just wanted bring to fellow cf'ers' attention a underrated player who has been glued onto the Jazz bench, who I think we should really make an attempt the sign this off-season.

    Name: CJ Miles
    Position: SG
    Height: 6'6

We all know that one of our desperate needs is a backup SG that can bring offense. Miles is a shooter, first and foremost, so I think he fits us as an athletic backup to T-Mac.
He has the most offensive game out of any of our bench players: he can shoot the three, he can shoot of the dribble, he can drive to the basket and finish above the rim or finish with a little lefty hook/push shot, and he can run the break and finish very effectively.
He is young, long, athletic, and has tons of potential still. He has shown that he can score from anywhere on the floor and he has the tools to become a solid defender. He has the athleticism and he has good length, but he needs to improve his lateral quickness.
His jumper forces the defense to keep an eye on him which, if nothing else, makes it a bit easier for Yao to operate inside. And for a team so dependent on the play of the big guy inside, that’s huge.

In the 18 game stretch where CJ got consistent minutes, he was very effective. His stats for those 18 games:

    16.9 mpg
    .500 fg
    .395 3pt
    .762 ft
    7.6 ppg
    1.6 rpg
    1.3 apg
    0.7 spg
    0.3 bpg
    2.6 pf
    0.8 to

Why the Jazz will let him go:
He plays the same positions as some of Sloan’s favorites. Now with Ronnie Brewer, Morris Almond, and Kyle Korver being SGs Miles will be buried on the bench. Jerry Sloan said multiple times this season that CJ deserved playing time and was working hard and doing everything right, but there was just no room in the rotation for him.

Plus, you wouldn't have to worry about Miles smoking pot. C.J. is a goody-goody whose idea of a good time is playing upbeat songs on the piano.
and hes also from Texas ;)

anyways...if u've read what I wrote then u'd either be really intrigued or bored...down to my point: we should sign him for about a 5 mil deal deal for 3 years so about 1.7m per year. He is restricted and I doubt the jazz will match that, not when they have two other young SGs.

Great post man, do you mind if I copy and paste to a few pals at some other board.

As for the topic, Ive actually had my eye on him for awhile now but every year he disappoints me so Im not optimistic about him but still I wouldnt be surprised if he did finally tap some of that potential.

PS Why would we be worried about his pot smoking?

I have not heard of this guy. but if what you describe is true, I wouldn't mind rockets targeting him if landry eats into our MLE and we don't have any other more "sure" targets on hand. :)

He should've gone to UT like he was supposed to. I cant fault him for going for the money but it wasnt a good basketball decision. My only question, how is he much different than Gerald Green? Is his basketball IQ higher?

Well I think he is quite different to GG, in the aspect that he is actually NBA ready unlike Green. Both were high schoolers, but Green hasn't even made a proper rotation yet(that tanking Boston roster doesn't count), while CJ has proved that he can play.

    I can't believe I forgot to mention that team-high 12-17, 29 Pts
4 Rebs, 5 Assists outburst he had against the Wizards earlier this season. So in this aspect he can actually play, but hes stuck behind Korver, Brewer, and Almond. Miles actually had started quite a handful of games when Kirilenko was injured this season.

SEASON TEAM GP GS MPG SPG BPG RPG APG PPG FG% 3P%
    2005-06 UTA 23 0 8.8 0.3 0.1 1.7 0.7 3.4 .368 .250
    2006-07 UTA 37 13 10.1 0.3 0.1 0.9 0.7 2.7 .345 .219
    2007-08 UTA 41 7 11.2 0.5 0.2 1.3 0.8 4.9 .484 .431
    Career 101 20 10.2 0.4 0.1 1.2 0.7 3.8 0.41 0.330

and also he has shown pretty good improvement throughout the last season, and being only 21 years old, will obviously keep on improving. His defense is improving I heard but obviously his forte is offense...which we need loads of...Green hasn't shown any improvement near this in his progress since he was drafted.

Anyways...who do we have as SG backup?! Luther Head only! Wouldn't hurt at all to have both Green and Miles on the roster.

I sense that Miles will be able to show what he is actually capable of when he gets the meaningful minutes after hopefully, the Rockets signing him this offseason.

Oh nah I don't mind...some of my post is copied from other sites after research into this guy anyways...feel free as long as it spreads the buzz about signing this sleeper to the Rockets.

Well I wouldn't worry now but after we sign him I'm pretty sure we would worry...look at the notoriety Josh Howard created after he smoked pot...trade value plumettes...can't shoot in the playoffs anymore after getting drunk the night before...

CJ Miles is the pseudo-Ray Allen...
Does anyone think CJ Miles looks like Ray Allen here?

That has nothing to do with weed. He should have smoked instead, you don't get hangovers from weed, just munchies. :p

I like the thought and have been watching vids of the utah team compiling possible targets. He does fit the mold,he is in a numbers battle eventhough Almond isn't a factor. I like it. Also another guy to factor is is Dorrell Wright. He's also another one of those like Green and Miles. He has a qualifying for 2.4m. The Rox have a trade exception of 2.5m. I like to upgrade the pg spot with someone like mo williams and have a guy like him, green, or wright off the bench at the swing spot if they don't want to move Battier.

Utah would match a $5 mill for 3 year offer just to keep their rival from getting him. They would then probably use his contract as trade bait to somebody else later on.

For onething, athletes smoking pot are weak, soft and not much of team player. Like Odom of the Lakers, Howard of the Mavs and RIP Eddie Griffin. These are just some players that are not much of team player. Potheads are weak!!!! :(

Your're kidding yourself if you think thats the only players that smoke pot. They're just the ones that got caught or in Howard's case, admitted it. T-Mac said himself that he doesn't smoke it himself, but knows guys that smoke weed and still go out and drop 30 points a game. More than likely, not many players smoke during the season due to drug test.

Francis smokes, anybody with a "migrain" is usually a pot smoker.

Im in high school and I know that 75% of the basketball team smokes.. and these are high schoolers. What makes you think NBA players with all their # wont smoke some @ their house in the down time?
