    ... is an addiction.

Makes you feel smarter than the person you're responding to, I know, but if you actually feel smarter by posting a smilie... well, you're not.

The eyerolling smilie is the bottom of the board.

The other smilies are used mostly for diplomacy. The eyeroller is used only to say: you're dumb -- I'm smart -- see?? this eyerolling smilie proves it!!

It should be eliminated from the cc.net language. It is the bottom of discourse. Or, at the very least, it is the bottom of civilized BBS discussion.

It is the sport of zeros. And anyone who indulges in it is a ZERO.

If you feel like rolling your eyes, roll them (your REAL ones). And then say something. I mean, SAY something. Instead of thinking a freaking smilie is saying something impressive in your stead.

The eyerolling smilie is the most annoying, stupid, petty, boring thing that ever happens on this board. And it happens about ten times an hour.

I think it'd be super if people just grew up instead. I'm not especially stupid, so I'm not holding my breath. But enough's enough, so I'm saying it anyway. That's all.

Pointless post...the eyeroller is a valid tool to express an emotion...it would be boring to only have "diplomatic" smilies....

I totally agree...and i also find that it is the most misused; often used by people who think they have a point, but don't.

I agree. Sometimes a post is so dumb it doesn't deserve anything other than an eyeroll.

Sarcasm sometimes doesn't work well in print. Mr. Eyerolls helps with that.

There's a stereotyping joke in here somewhere, if I could just find it. :p

    That's a great idea.

See, the eyerolling smiley is very important as a sarcasm indicator. Unfortunately, some people (not me) have trouble picking up on sarcasm (like when I suggested we trade Collier, Taylor, Rice, and Hawkins for Duncan). The eyerolling smiley as a stand alone post I will agree is overused though.

Or it could be used to express contempt.

After all the b****ing and moaning I have seen you post about people being labelled unfairly by the police or otherwise, it seems a tad disingenuous for you to presumptuously label a group of posters as zeros (non-entities, null sets in the sceme of life). If I ever, EVER see you post about people being labelled unfairly...I will pounce on it immediately because of this post.

No...I think posting an entire thread about your superiority because you never use it may beat it for the most annoying, stupid and petty thing on this board.

Amazing...that's just what I was thinking.

Shucks, Ref. I was wasted. No excuse, I know, but in the interest of disclosure... Anyway, sorry I pissed you off. Feel free to pounce whenever you think it's appropriate.

Don't worry about it. I was pissed to begin with. I had a flat tire in Conroe at a friend's wedding.

You provided the perfect catalyst to vent.

    Whew! See...I feel better. Don't you? :)

Batman, I agree completely with your post. Eyerolling reflects an inability to articulate one's thoughts. The eyeroller is reduced to a mere expression of frustration, a final, emotional salvo intended to replace the words and arguments they are incapable of generating.

I feel like I have a unique perspective on this. I receive 'eyerolls' with a very high frequency on this board, owing principally to my ability to express opinions in well articulated posts. The enemy combatant is frustrated by these skills, as well as my general reluctance to become emotional. When the combatant recognizes that their position is indefensible, they are left with no other option than to either throw out an eyeroll or to engage in personal attacks.
