When adults do horrific things to children I feel jail or prison isn't enough. Am I wrong for wanting them to suffer like their poor kids?

I was reading yet another story of someone who starved her poor 2 month son to death getting 5 years. Maybe she should be fed bread and water once a week, to get a glimpse of what her poor baby went through.

When I hear of people caging or closeting or beating their small children for years I just want to see them put in shackles on a public square and let people walk up and give them a kick daily for an hour, and cage them all in a kennel like the animals they are.

The other side of me thinks they all have to be mentally ill, and need to be put in a mental institution until they die. The problem is, we can't even get beds for the mentally ill who so desperately need it as it is, especially in Texas.

This is the part of the debate of what our justice system is for. Is it primarily for the safety of the general public? Is it for retribution and vengeance of the victims? Is it for rehabilitation of the offender? I think our system has tried to do all of those things at once and is one reason why we have so many problems with our justice and prison systems.
