when i plug my computer into my cable modem (direct connection through an ethernet cable, no wireless, no routers, nothing). it shows on my "network settings" that i am connected. if i pull up a dos prompt, and ping yahoo.com or google.com, i get a ping. i called customer service, they can see my computer on the network, i have an ip address, they show me as being connected. BUT, i cannot access anything. i show packets being sent but not received (which is weird since im able to ping just fine) but in my web browsers (ie and firefox). when i boot up my computer, it connects fine, but after a couple of minutes it will lose the connection. and then now and then i'll be up and running for like a whole day, then bam, it just goes away again. ive renewed and released my ip address, i've repaired connection, etc etc etc. harware wise everything shoudl be working. i also have a vonage router. when i go through the vonage router, my phone WORKS. but i cannot even log into the router by typing the ip of the router into the web browser to configure it. anyone have any ideas? its driving me nuts. i'm posting this at work in hopes of getting a response, im all out. ive virus scanned, ive got updated ad-aware and microsoft antispyware all running, and i keep my comp clean of all that. anyone got any ideas? thanks
Alot of people are having problems with antivirus software and firewalls. Have you disabled these types of software?
Being 'connected' on a cable modem does not mean that there are not problems in the lines. Did you install splitters recently? How is your cable TV signal, crisp? The cable provider should be able to test your modem from their office and tell you if there is a quality issue on the line. I believe my provider referred to our test result with 'the frequency is too high, so there's a problem'. Call them again.
