Where is the best place to get a good deal at, and does name brand matter?

    Try http://www.newegg.com

I wouldn't say that brand name matters all that much...but you usually get what you pay for.

Personally, I've had good luck with Seagate and Buffalo.

    You're in luck

    1TB for 135

I don't need a terabyte but it sure is tempting.

Maxtor's been good for me. The speed on the drive itself might not be anything stellar (more than 5400 rpms) but it gets the job done. 135 is dirt cheap compared to the 200 i spent on a 320gb lacie one a couple of years back.

^^^Although Maxtor may work for some, many people have complaints about them... I would stick with a Western Digital or Seagate HD (although I think they bought out Maxtor too)

It might be better to just get a case ($20 or less) and then a hard drive itself.

I forgot to add my main reason for getting one is to backup my music and photos, and also to share with others (sorry artists).

I have this same one  . It's the slim, black, small Passport one... right? They also had a red one at the time I bought mine. I guess with 1TB at such a low price, why not go for it...?

EDIT: mine's a Western Digital Passport, not a Seagate. It's external, and it's 350Gb. Damn, I'm losing it... or getting old... or forgetting things... anyway, I have a 500Gb Seagate I got at Fry's a while...
