For those of you complaining about Rudy "not being stern enough" with the team, it should be noted that (according to media reports) yesterday's practice topped the 3.5-hour mark, and today's went well over three. Some of this is surely due to trying to integrate Yao Ming a bit better, but it is still a pretty big deviation from SOP. Rudy has never been mistaken with Pat Riley in terms of extended practices. I, for one, am glad to see that he is taking full advantage of this three-day break between games, and hope it will be reflected on the court Saturday night.
How did you hear that today's practice went over 3 hours edc? Sounds like Rudy is maximizing this extended period between games as another Training Camp session of sorts.
ooooooh, three hours... i worked 8+ hours today, granted not physical work, but that's all these guys practice is three hours maybe three and a half? and that's a LONG practice? wow, what a job!
Good work, Rudy. True result comes from true hard work. No short-cut and no overnight success. Hey, this is what makes Houston a great city. A hard working, blue-collar city. I used to have 2 jobs and full-time in college.
It was an aside in a couple of sports reports. News types were looking for comment from Mo Taylor on the "Michigan self ban" story, and apparently had to wait a LONG time for the end of practice
Its good to hear, but I'm very concerned with Ming's physical condition. I'm astonished that he's still standing and wonder how long he can take. I wish we could give him a 5-game stint on the IL to do nothing but lift weights, and when he's not doing that, SLEEP AND REST. No running, no staying up late, no 3-hour practice. Just weights and sleep. Maybe he can watch practice. I am really incredibly worried about all this pressure on him.
That is three straight hours of PRACTICE. It does not include lifting, rehabbing, shooting around, or any other incidental work that needs to be done. No doubt the players have a good life, but this is not an instance to envy them.
What a dumb comment. Obviously you've never been in any sort of athletics. Basic physiology dude. Good marathon runners don't compete for more than 3.5 hours either. I guess their loafing it too, huh? An overworked athlete and not enough recovery time between hard practice and competition is a useless athlete. Plus I'd bet this is court practice time. It doesn't count weight training, stretching or after practice rehab (ice down, treatments, rub downs). I also doubt this includes team meetings and reviewing game tape. After adding in all of this, you start getting closer to your beloved 8 hour day. What a dumb thing to say.
What they need to do is watch five hours of film on passing, rebounding, and passing after the three hours of practice. Then they will have a "8" hour day.
There you go. How about 3h practice, 3h film and 2 hrs of a motivational speaker by a guy in a van down by the river!
I, for one, don't think it would hurt for Francis to look at some John Stockton and Isaiah Thomas tapes. I also don't think it's a bad idea for Yao to look at tapes of how Kwame Brown (or someone who had a similar career so far) changed from year 1 to year 2. It's the little things. Being a split second quicker, jumping a bit higher, being a competitor, being confident. I also don't think it's a bad idea for Mobley to run the point in practice, so that he can improve his passing skills.
Speaking of tapes, I keep thinking the Rockets are watching too much "Above the Rim" and not enough of the GREATEST BASKETBALL MOVIE OF ALL TIME "Hoosiers".
get off my case you bandwagoners... it just seems like 3 hours of practice isn't enough and i never said anything about "loafing" ... like someone else said, hopefully it was three hours of passing!
