Explosion in Southwest Houston Did anyone else feel that explosion. I live at beltway 8 and 288 and it was very loud. I understand the explosion was at south main and fondren.
they are showing live images on ABC13 thats one big ass fire they said its a chemical plant EDIT: company is Marcus Oil & Chemical
I felt one large blast at about 5:50pm. If I look out my back windows I can see a large plume of smoke. I live about 7 miles from the blast.
Well thats what the hell I just heard and felt. I live here in Oak Forest and was a few blocks from my house trying to get a jog in and I heard and felt a quick thunder boom. I knew it was too cool for a thunderstorm so I wasn't sure what it was till I just got back to the house. Can't believe I felt and heard that all the way over here.
as per Channel 13 there were multiple explosions and i knew thats what i was that i heard....all the way over here in Pasadena.
That's the second time I've felt an explosion in this area. The first was a pipeline to a salt dome exploded somewhere north of the city, I don't remember but it happened in the early 90's. Anyone remember what I'm talking about? I have a friend who lives exactly in that neighborhood, off of Fondren and West Airport in a House. Its less than a mile from South Main. I haven't talk to him, both he and his wife work at hospitals and have some weird hours. I called his home but he wasn't there, I'm sure his windows were knocked out.
That was 1993 and it happened WAY out north of Houston. I remember that I woke up early in the morning and heard the screened in porch on the back of my mom's house shaking and though someone was trying to break into the house. We had no idea what it was. I went to school (UH) and was in the newsroom with Mrs JB and was told about this explosion and how it was felt as far as a couple hundred miles away.
Well my ole' man was telling me about the 1947 explosion Texas City that sadly killed a few hundred people, and to give an idea of the size of the explosion, a ships anchor the size of a house a apartment was sent rocketing through the air. Thank god nobody was killed with this one. Seems a miracle that nobody was when I consider the fact that I was able to feel and hear it all the way over here in NW Houston.
man that was crazy... i was watching fox news when another explosion happened live it made quite a huge mushroom cloud
King Cheetah, thanks for pulling that up. Im still trying to figure out how i heard this explosion and felt it all the way over here in oak forest in nw houston. i guess the speed of sound and the curvation of the earth and the reverbarations and all that have something to do with it. now when i look at that picture, i feel a bit of a fool for thinking my dad had one too many and was maybe exaggerating a bit when he said an ships anchor was sitting in a hotel yard a few miles away after flying a few miles through the air. hard to fathom such power.
