I am wary as to what to expect from Griffin... Though I will project him to average 13 points, 7-8 boards, 2 assists, and close to 2 blocks per game... Having that production would make the Rockets a 50-win team... ------------------ "Awesome baby!" Dick Vitale
Those are the numbers I believe that Griff will put up next year. Do you think those will be good enough to earn Rookie of the Year? ------------------
It should... Assuming this year's class does as bad as the 2000 draft class... I would hope that Griffin doesn't shoot much worse than 45% from the field... And hopefully he can shoot at least 35% from 3 pt land... I am still skeptical about whether or not he can shoot the NBA 3 with success... I know he has a great jumper from 15-19 ft... ------------------ "Awesome baby!" Dick Vitale
nah i doubt he'll get ROY, but come close, and be a significant factor for team's success. Perhaps kwame brown will get it, maybe battier even if he doesnt deserve it. Sixth man award might go to tim thomas this year, it would be pretty cool if dan langhi did get it. Seriously you might think thats a joke, but you never know.... Who was guarding him in the summer leagues when he dropped 30 and which players did he guard? Odom, Battier? ------------------
ROY is Battier or Richaardson... If not them, I see Brendan haywood takin it as a surprise... He has a lot of HEART....and he's out to prove something... ------------------
Did he get this heart as a graduation present? Cause he sure didn't have it in college. ------------------ It was the time of the preacher, in the year of '01 Now the preachin' is over, and the lessons begun . . .
18 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks and 5 assists Just kidding. I'd guess if he averaged low double digits in points and 7 or 8 rebounds plus a couple of blocks that would be great considering the other scoring options on this team. IMO, guys like Battier, Brown and others have a better shot at ROTY because they are on bad teams. That's assuming MJ isn't playing in DC. ------------------ Who's your buddy? Who's your pal? I am, aren't I?
It seems that the majority of the BBS believes he will average something like this: 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block If that is the case, I will be extremely disappointed. 15-8-4-2 is what I expect. ------------------ Protrolls.com! Keep the ???? alive! The ZRBucks!
Eddie Griffin 2001-02 15 points - 10 rebounds - 3 blocks Please, Eddie, please!! ------------------ This is our FRANCHISE and these are the RULES - Learn it, Live it, Love it!
As for rookie of the year or rookies that will get the most attention I agree with Sane that it will be Jason Richardson or Shane battier if they stay healthy. JR is a offensive machine with major highlight dunks. Shane Battier is just a leader, he's could improve a team with just his positive leadership. I think they both could average more than 14pts a game esp. with JR. EG could be better than both of them but it won't be this season. We are really deep and his services aren't as needed in GS or M in terms of scoring. I hate to guess what his numbers will be but I'm going to say anywhere from 8-12pts, 5-7 boards, 1.5-2.5 blocks. That's just my opinion if he does average anywhere in there or better I'll be very satisfied with his production ------------------
Not really. It's hard for a player with an under-developed body off 1 year of college to come in and average 7-8 boards a game. I'm gonna predict 10pts/4rebs/1blk for him. Be realistic. I'm laughing at some of these predictions here. Like he'll step off the court at Seton Hall and be a star SF... LOL Rooks need time and unless you're built like Elton Brand was, you won't get 7-10 boards a game. [This message has been edited by Flutie (edited July 23, 2001).]
Who says he has an underdeveloped body? I mean, I doubt many people expected him to come right out of high school and dominate college like he did. ------------------ It was the time of the preacher, in the year of '01 Now the preachin' is over, and the lessons begun . . .
In terms of ROY, I suspect that Battier will be pretty close to the primary option for Memphis this year, and therfore get the chance to put up numbers that Griff won't get...Last years' stats were an abberation, where there wasn't really a rookie who became his team's no. 1 option. By the very nature of the draft, you often get the top rookies going to teams who don't really have a viable no. 1...Look at the years before the last...Francis, Brand, Carter, Duncan, Stoudamire, Van Horn, Rahim, etc...There are usually a couple of rookies who step in and assume the No. 1 role...and Griff isn't going to get that chance. I am talking sheer stats here, not over-all impact, and the guys with the stats win. In terms of the year Griff will have, and the expectations, I do think that the euphoria that we all felt on draft day did cause a lot of us to shoot way too high. I think the kid is going to be a very good player, but not yet. At least not offensively. I think his shot blocking and rebounding are just natural, and he could put up unusual numbers for a forward, let alone a rookie, in those departments. But I suspect he'll score in the very low teens, maybe just breaking into dbl. figures, and even that might be a reach. All those people comparing him to guys like Rahim, etc. in term of rookie numbers forget who he'll be playing with, and the fact that Rahim got way more touches/game than Griff will have. I've said it before, but this kid reminds me more and more of Larry Nance...And Nance was a fairly unique player... ------------------
Flutie- you are wrong, and you are stupid. Leave. Griffin is gauranteed to average at least more boards then Mo Taylor. 4brds is assinine. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
