With the tallent level getting better, and (seemingly) all of the teams getting better....There are guys getting cut that can help with an NBA team. Do you think that may be one or two new teams in the NBA's future? If so where?
there's already teams in New Orleans and CHarlotte that nobody cares about...more like relocation than expansion.
Expansion? Many people are arguing for contraction. The NBA talent level is not as good as it used to be due to recent expansions, salary cap settings and high schoolers. However, with the influx of international players and shutting down of highschoolers, the talent level has been slowing getting back up. It is just right. Expansion shouldn't happen for another 5 to 10 years.
you want a team full of mike harris and justin reed type of players? I wouldn't pay money to watch those guys play, I can watch them at Fonde for free.
The NBA talent level is fine, it's that the market can't support a few hundred million more in nba talent payrolls.
NBA should not expand for at least 10 years. the league is still saturated with teams. maybe in 10 years there will be enough top level foreign talent here to allow the league to consider expansion.
NOOO The NBA is finally having legit talent, most west teams are stacked, now it's time to stack the east teams.. then the entire nba will be stacked and no minor league quality teams.. That is when the NBA returns to legit status, do not expand, expanding = lesser talent basketball. Atleast for the time being
Contract Charlotte, Seattle, atlanta, and Memphis. Possibly Minnesota. Move New Orleans East in 10 years when you either re-expand in Seattle or expand in Vegas.
Before the NBA can reasonably hope to expand without seriously compromising the already watered down talent, they have to findish and/or get serious about developing a minor league/development league that is truly linked to the league. This is what baseball has that nobody else has. NFL doesn't need it really as the player lifespan, due to the physical demands of the game these days, is 5-8 years. Baseball can keep a guy going back and forth between majors and minors for years at every level of the career, constantly re-evaluating the potential impact on a team in a certain postion at a certain time. The NBA, in the past, has seen this as a back burner situation compared to selling Jordan and Kobe jerseys. Now is tthe time to make it happen. The CBA is not close enough. Rudy knows a nd II think the rocks know it would be best to have players in the wings. How 'bout the guys they just released- wouldn't it be better to have them in reserve status on, say the Corpus Christi "Boosters" team? - CF
Damn that's gonna be some hard scheduling. First they're gonna have to cut down the number of games and then they have to deal with jet lag. Then players like Tmac will be playing with his eyes close cus it's already half open as it is.
You think Stevie Franchise complained about spending Canadian mula? Just imagine OJ Mayo getting drafted by Greece. Ya right... And I am sure Adelman would love to play the Spurs on Monday then fly to Italy for a game. Not gonna happen...
The day the NBA expands to other countries (Toronto doesn't count) is the day I quit watching the NBA. I just really hate that idea.
there is no way that the NBA expands to europe. it is just too far. number one issue is the travel. number two issue is the times that games would have to be played at. it's either no one in the us watches them or no one in europe watches them.
Nah, but I wouldnt be surprised to see New Orleans or Charlotte relocate within the next 5 years. Seattle is already a given... As to where? I dontknow if Stern will ever let the Vegas franchise happen. Especially not after Donaghy. Maybe a Pittsburgh or a San Diego team would be a possibility.
I think 32 teams is the right number. Half the league goes to the playoffs. I don't think Europe is a legitimate possibility. The travel is too problematic. There is too much of a divide culturally as well. Not for the players so much as the audiences. It would make the league feel cobbled together. And, frankly, I think the leagues in Europe are too strong. If the league wanted to go more international within its league (because they could start independent leagues in other countries), I would think Mexico City would be a sensible choice for a team. The league's not going to be in a better position talent-wise by waiting. Other leagues in the world are getting stronger and wealthier. I think it will be increasingly the case that talented players who could do well in the NBA will choose to stay in other leagues
