Hey guys, what existing things (anything) do you think will last a long time?

    Here's my list:

    Wal-Mart
    IPod
    Bikes

You can also list things that won't last long:

    Trees
    Gas cars
    House phones

I'll post more later if this thread lifts off.

Interesting. I for one actually think house phones will stay around forever. Just think, once you need a nanny to take care of your baby, you're going to want to be able to call home. Even if she does have a cell phone (most do not), you do not want to solely rely on that. Plus, its an easy way to call the cops and the most efficient way for security to get to you ;)

    House phones stay

    Tube TV's will go
    Nike shoes will remain

i really don't think they're going anywhere. too portable. so easy to access. and much less of strain on your eyes than staring at a screen.

    i agree 100%

i saw some gadget show on tv a few weeks ago, and they were talking up this digital book. it was basically a tablet with a screen about the size of an average book page. you could load hundreds of digital books into it and then take it with you.

it just seemed like such a useless idea. i like books the way they are now.

Paper Books probably won't go obsolete until they come up with a digital version that mimics it's functionality. Like a normal book, but instead of paper pages, it has plastic-y pages that can display digital content. Sort of like flipping through a picture album with it's plastic pages, except with words on it. It could store your whole library, but still gives you the ease of use to flip through it and browse.

    That would be pretty awesome.

One thing that better stay is Blockbuster! I keep hearing video stores are going to be a thing of the past. I for one dont wanna wait 2-3 days for my movies to come through the mail. I want it when I want it! Downloading takes too long and I dont want to watch the damn thing on my computer.

In 10 years or so, you'll probably be able to stream dvd quality movies (or even blu-ray quality for that matter) to your television in real time. Until then however video stores will still be around for it's immediacy and ease of use.

I can see the Ipod going away. Its the same way as cd players and tape cassette players have phased out.

Ipod and MP3 players are two different things. I think the brand "Ipod" will last a long while and if there is a new type of music player invented, then I think the Ipod will move over to that one and dominate.

    Here is another:

Anyone remember those Mini Disc players from the late 90's? It was right before the mp3 craze took off. I thought they were gonna last forever!
