Yall know I'm a gun nut or something...I was watching the previews to SWAT as the movie looks really good + is based on the famous 80 man crew L.A.P.D. SWAT team...

Recently, I was reading that the L.A. based SWAT team awarded a landmark contract with the manufacture "Kimber", now considered the premiere 1911 style handgun beating out top competitors such as Colt, Springfield, and Wilson-combat...It can be found on the internet but it's interesting about the story of SWAT and how they chose this type of handgun...

The gun is the Kimber Custom 2 T.L.E. with 30 lines per inch checking and "nuclear" nighttime sights...Although a "basic" type model sans the 2 previous named options...Kimber equips 1911's with more standard features than anyone while others set similar features as options or custom options...

As a collector, I highly, highly recommend this gun to those interested...For SWAT, Reliabilty is a must, the gun must work every time without jamming or malfunctions...#2 is stopping power...the famous .45 acp cartridge takes care of this...#3 is tangible characteristics such as ergonomics, sight capability, handling...

The gun isn't cheap, ($850.00), but look at the price of similar equiped and then you realize it's the most gun for the money...It's also my next one...:)

The movie looks cool and authentic from what I've seen so far in previews, and yes they feature the Kimber Custom 2 T.L.E. "go-to" handgun of the prestigious L.A.P.D. SWAT...In real life, 2 handguns is issued to each of the 80 operators...1 with attached flashlight, 1 without...

it's also true that when SWAT purchased them this year as standard for the operators, they were so impressed with the performance, they turned down an offer from another competitor to accept the contract free of charge...

Regardless of my rambling about the gun, my hopes is that the movie will add much needed realistic-type action entertainment at theaters,...even if the realism is exaggerated just a tad...

Hard to believe that "Special Weapons" and Tactics is using a gun that was designed a full century ago.

I wonder what John Browning would think of this?

There's a reason why they are using an updated version of this ancient weapon....stopping power and reliability. Nothing can beat an old .45 for both. Sure, it kicks like a mule, but nothing can be a .45 for putting someone down and keeping them down. This Kimber pistol is pretty sweet, for sure. With triticon night sights, a lightened trigger and better grips, I imagine the Kimber is a good shooting pistol.

I have one of old Colts, modified similarly by myself like the Kimber pistols (I do a bit of gunsmithing as a hobby) but my favorite is the Glock .45 cal. It's light, easy to fire, reliable and accurate.

if you're looking for realistic action scenes I doubt SWAT would be the summer movie for you, this movie was made by the same guy who did Fast and Furious and Triple X.

Yeah, tenchi,...when I did some more "research" about the movie, I saw that...somewhat of a downer, because I was hoping there wouldn't be too much fakish-like scenes and more realism, even if it might be sensationalized somewhat...Still I intend to check it out and hope it will be fun.

yep, bye, bye realism.....hello silly stunts and special effects. If you want to see a police movie that is gut-check realistic, check out the Heat. The bank robbery gun battle is probably one of the most realistic gunfights ever captured on celluloid.

    This movie looks interesting. http://swatmovie.com/;)

From the previews, isn't the story that the main characters are part of a super special top notch young S.W.A.T. unit or something? I'm getting tired of Michelle Rodriquez, she always plays the same character; the hispanic space marine from Aliens.

That was her?!?!...No way, she's too young...unless she is now older than I thought.

I couldn't make the connection at first, but now I am seeing it...

No, Jenette Goldstein played Vasquez in Aliens and the foster mother in T2.

Yeah, I was saying that Michelle's whole career is based on the character of Vasquez. In all her movies she basically plays the same thing Goldstein did in Aliens.

When a man with a .45 meets a man with a rifle, the man with the pistol is a dead man.

Sure. Just like you never want to bring a knife to a gun fight.

But what happens when the man with a rifle meets a man with a shotgun? (Or a street-sweeper)

Of course it's a lot harder to walk around with a rifle strapped to your leg, isn't it?

Sure, Long arms are primary, but what if your primary arm should fail?...

You need a secondary arm in the form of a handgun...but it's true even the most powerful handguns doesn't come close to generating the energy that an average rifle does...The .223 looks so small and wimpy but it generates more energy than any handgun chambering plus it is uniquely designed to fragment in pieces when hitting the inner parts of a body and it also "yaws" (goes sideways) moreso than others...hence, stopping power...

When you choose a handgun, you don't have the energy levels that create rifle level "shock" power...For close quarters battle, a handgun is often most useful since it's most manueverable in tight corners...The .45 is actually one of the slowest bullets around, but that is a good thing...two words: energy deposit...2 more words: bigger holes.

The 9mm is a fine round, but storys of 7, 8, 9 shots + to stop a crazed assailent is no lie...The 9mm is a faster bullet, can zip through a body, with less energy deposit...(It's the same reason why a .270 deer cartridge often stops a deer quicker and more humanely than a 7mm remington ultra magnum cartridge...at 100 to 200 yards...at 500 yards its a different story)...

In the handgun world, the .45 is unbeatable, and is ultra reliable...

A real man doesn't need a gun. Real men use swords and sorcery.
