Exactly when did the Texans O-line become elite?

You probably read those comments from somewhere random like I had that pretty much states Foster got all his yards because of the incredible and awesome Texans O-line dominating the opposing DL at will and creating unheard of running holes that Fat Albert could pass thru . . .
Of course I laugh it off as an ignorant person making himself heard knowing what we (local/Texans fans) know about Foster ...but then I realized after watching some highlights that maybe there should be more credit to the O-line than I thought. . .

Remember the NFL network commercial of "what does your team need?" featuring a non-existant Texans O-line...or the Jets NT slapping Myers in the head? ...or Slaton running into his own O-linemen due to no holes? ...

I guess the emergence of the O-line is one absolute positive from the Texans and I think this part of the Texans game snuck up on us faster than anything...thoughts?

    our o is pretty solid...

problem is we got o and no d

    there's no "d" in houston

i hate baseball but dont we like suck at pitching now too? or just suck in general, that's d in baseball right?

how is the dynamo's d? didn't they have a crappy season?

do we still have the aeros? lol if their d sucks too we could have some kind of record going here

It was probably this past year. The Wade Smith signing was a great one.

In 2009, the line was actually a bit better in pass protection, though Owen Daniels was hurt and not available as Schaub's safety valve.

In 2009 the rushing offense wasn't as good obviously, but Slaton was the starting RB for most of the year.

Astros pitching wasn't bad last season. Not the greatest, but not terrible.

Astros' problem has been the opposite...no offense.

Nope. terrible offense. Astros actually had 3rd most quality starts in the league last year.

The tackles have been good for a couple of years. Eric Winston is an excellent front side tackle, and Duane Brown is a pretty good back side tackle. Then bringing in Wade Smith really made a difference for the middle of the line. Chris Myers is still the weakness, but despite his giving an ugly highlight to Kris Jenkins, he isn't terrible.

There's something to be said for continuity. Seems like during the Carr years, the O-line looked different from week to week.

An upgrade at Center might be nice, but otherwise leave the O-line alone and let them continue to gel. The more they play together, the better they will be.

It's funny, you never hear Duane Brown's name mentioned much. And that's the ultimate compliment for an LT. He's quietly getting better and better every game. Aside from the steroid thing, that was a pretty solid pick.

Most of the sacks this year were due to Schaub holding on to the ball too long.

I wouldn't call o-line elite. It's decent, but still struggles against the pass rush. Also compounded by Schaub's slow release and holding the ball too long.

When I said "elite", I was almost poking fun of the random posts I saw which seemed too quick to hail the O-line at the expense of Foster. . .at the same time, the O-line was more than decent in 2010...Arguably tops in run blocking, while maybe slightly better than average in pass blocking...

Hopefully the overall performance will continue with improvement on pass blocking.

Zone Block: Great for running, not so good at protecting the quarterback.

Ranked 20th in most sacks allowed (32) and 13th in most QB hits (77).

Mediocre by the numbers but then you watch offensive line and you know it is vastly inferior in pocket protection. Schaub never has more than 3 seconds to get rid of the ball. His decent mobility has saved him often than his line. Given more time in the pocket and and some heat on Schaub's throws, there is no reason for Dre not to lead the league in touchdowns and deep completions.

Our O-line is far from elite. Good at run blocking, mediocre at pass blocking (IMO)

I do like our tackles, though Dwayne Brown is good for 3 false starts per game

Maybe someone more knowledgeble about the game can correct me, but it always seemed to me that Schaub holds the ball a lot less than most QBs. So I've always thought that Schaub(or rather the offensive scheme) actually HELPS the O-Line, since they rarely has to hold their blocks for a long time.

I agree, I dont understand some saying that he holds the ball too long, if anything, getting rid of the ball is a strength of his

I think this happens because of his confidence in AJ and himself. With a League leading rusher and a 4,000 yard passer, it's a shame the line isn't talked about more. One of them deserved a late pro bowl invite.
