I'm not sure where this belongs or if it was discussed already but did anyone else hear Eddie Johnson discuss the "loss of American jobs" to foreign players during All-star weekend? He was calling for a maximum allowance of foreign players per team. It was a pretty weak argument but an attitude that I’m sure many third and fourth tier American players have. I thought this was the NBA where the BEST players in the world play. If the Fast Eddie’s of today can’t make it in the NBA so be it; they either need to work harder or play overseas. Or, dare I say D-league. What do you guys think?

He also has an interview in Spin Magazine about how they don't make music the way they used to. "Everything's all computers!"
Wow... EJ just lost a lot of points with me. The whole point of America is allowing others to come succeed.
ignorant comment but man o man i cant watch this enough <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/luBrkc2m9cI&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/luBrkc2m9cI&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
The customer is king, and who would you rather watch. Yao Ming or Jackie Butler? Easy answer. Besides, sports is one of the few industries where you advance based on how good you are. Who wants to bring politics and affirmative action into it? I watch sports to avoid having to think about that stuff.
going global, making money, etc. vs not losing jobs to really good foreign players can't have it both ways. maybe he should realize that many former greats, like patrick ewing or hakeem, are actually foreign players. i'd like see one day an asg consists of us players and int'l players. that'd be much more fun than the current format. we've got enough foreign players/stars to do it now.
How does he define "foreign player"? Would Steve Nash count against Phoenix's quota? I think it's stupid and backwards. There used to be other types of quotas on sports teams long ago. I wonder what he thought of those.
This is so similar to the idiotic "Premier League is for Englishmen" argument. If you suck, accept it and move on. I'm not paying...well $0. Fine. I'm not spending hours...minutes...finding that link just to watch Eddie play John. I want my Nashs and my Yaos and yes, even my Dirks.
yeah, wish i was lebron. lol. i've said this for a few years now. i guess it's slowly but surely becomig sorta common sense now. but really, imagine the following 2 teams square off - american td/howard kg/amare 'bron/melo kobe/mcgrady cp3/bdiddy int'l yao/bogut dirk/bargs deng/diaw ginobili/gorden nash/parker it'd be heck of a game.
I think of it this way. The cream always rises to the top in life. Eddie came out in a time when the players went to college for 3 or 4 yrs then entered nba. Now the most polished players come from overseas. I do think the foreign players have a advantage because they get to ball against men and not worry about high school or college. I think the nba has fallen in love with the 7ft jumpshooter just like they fell in love with 6'10 super athelete. There is enough spots if ur good enough to get them.
I think they do this in other basketball leagues around the world. Maybe he figures the NBA should reply in kind.
