If they want to land James next season, they have to wait and see which coach James wants to play for.
What assistant coach wouldn't want the job? There's only 30 head coaching jobs out there, and most vacancies are filled by guys who have been head coaches before. I can see a vet like JVG or Adelman saying "no thanks," but not an assistant.
If he's publicly lobbying for the job, he won't get it. Put that in the bank. People don't get head coaching gigs in any pro sport by mouthing off. I can't think of any exceptions off the top of my head.
What if Phil Jackson publicly said he wanted to be the Nets head coach?(Metaphorically speaking of course!)
I think PJ wouldn't have to "lobby" for anything. He'd only have to casually mention it to an LA paper and Thorn will be at his doorstep the next day with roses and a gift basket.
None of the top coaches out of the league will take the Nets job. They would have to look for an assistant who has never had a head coaching job. Thibodeau comes to mind. Also Elston Turner. Somebody like that would probably take the job. If they wait until after the season their prospects would be better because of the very high draft pick.
He talked Del Harris out of retirement otherwise he wouldn't have taken the job. Kiki is a smooth SOB, let's see if he can turn around a team that many think has some nice pieces.
WOW, that article mentioned that Chewing was nicknamed the 'Gorilla' by fans everywhere. though that may be true, is that something one ought to put in an article?
It's a translated Chinese article. They are generally not as sensitive about such matters over there.
