    From ESPNews.....

Ewing to announce retirement at press conference tomorrow.

How does he rank among the past centers.

Wasn't Ewing talking about being an assistant coach, or something like that? I seem to remember something like that. Forgot who, though.

    Dream, look! :(

I think Ewing is one of the top 12 centers all time.

Top 12? I think Ewing is possibly among the top five centers of all time:

    Hakeem Olajuwon
    Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
    Shaquille O'Neal
    Bill Russell
    Patrick Ewing

I could be missing others, but Ewing was a lot better than most people give him credit for, although his retirement should've come three years ago.

That's my fault. What was I thinking?!? Wilt is definitely top five.
    Thanks for noticing the mistake.

Yes,Ewing is among the top 6 or 7 centers of all time. Hakeem was better than Ewing but they had some classic battles.
If Ewing is indeed retiring he will be one of the best players ever not to win a ring.
Hakeem on the otherhand has nothing to prove because he is a two time champion. It's time for him to retire as well.

Russell is definitely the most overrated center of all time. The dude had God know how many other HOF'ers on his team. Not to mention there were only eight teams when he won most of his championships.

Ewing retired two years ago, it's just that everyone forgot to tell HIM that...

IMO, Malone, with his three MVP awards, was clearly better than Ewing.

Ewing was never really the same after he screwed up his wrist. He was still limping credibly before the injury, and after, but by the time his shooting was starting to come around, Old Man Knees wouldn't cooperate.

Ewing's best shot at a ring was when John Starks wouldn't quit jacking up the threes. Thank you, John Starks.

Ewing is an awful man and I hope that he gets completely out of the league soon, he should go hang around those gold clubs full time getting lap dances with Horace Grant. These two are leeches and I think that their time should be up.

Fair assessment of Ewing's failure to win a championship.

The bold text below is the most fair thing I've ever seen written about the 1994 Finals by the national media:

"Starks tried to be (the complimentary scorer Ewing needed) in Houston in Games 6 and 7 of the 1994 Finals, when all the Knicks needed was one win to secure the title. But first Starks had his game-winning try in Game 6 blocked by Olajuwon. And in Game 7, thinking he was Isiah Thomas or somebody, he launched 18 shots and missed 16. Some people gave Riley heat for never finding a way to get Ewing the ball. Others blamed Starks, a CBA product and one-time bagger at a grocery store.

But looking at the bigger picture, Ewing was outplayed in that series by another future Hall of Famer, Olajuwon, who didn't exactly have a great player on his side, either."
