With Cato out, I think this is a good temporary move.

i'd rather see a 45 YO Ewing bumping with Shaq than Mo or Spoon.

How long has he been out of the league??? 3 years???

I don't think Ewing is playing tonight against the Lakers.... I think he will be more insurance. We still need to hear this officially, but it looks like he's coming back.

I really think Ewing is going to dominate tonight. I mean with months of practicing against Yao, he knows exactly how to exploit Shaq. I'm looking for a 20:10 night from both Yao and Pat.

Really isn't a surprise. With Cato out we need someone to take the load off of Yao defensively. Clearly JVG knows that Spoon is too short to guard Shaq. We already have heard from the chronicle article that Mo isn't too excited about guarding Shaq. So it leaves Yao and Oakley. Better to have another big body in Ewing to give Yao a breather.

Let's face it, Ewing has been training with Yao all year long so I am sure he is in decent shape to play spot minutes substituting for Yao.

Excellent move. I think he will take us deep into the playoffs.

    RIDICULOUS !!

How much longer are we going to endure ugly ball.

Ewing was HORRID these last 2 years.

I can not believe the Rockets have sunk so low.

    JVG is losing his marbles.

    FWIW,

My uncle, who is a sports medicine/physical therapy doctor, told me a couple of weeks ago that his group has been working with Patrick Ewing for a few weeks. Patrick apparently still has some effects from a prior injury that he needs help with and wanted to know how much activity he could endure with it. I think my uncle told me it had something to do with his right wrist.

Anyway, I don't know how this relates to this story, but apparently Patrick has been trying to get into better shape.

Can we get Starks on a 10-day? I think Anthony Mason is available, too. We could counter the Lakers with this crafty lineup :

    Ewing
    Oakley
    Mason
    Starks
    M.Jax

Don't flame me but I have a pretty good source telling me that Van Gundy is trying lure John Starks out of retirement.

I think its a good move. At least Starks is used to playing with a big man and we can bench Cat's ass when he makes his usual stupid, selfish shot decisions.

All Starks needs to do is stand there and shoot the 3. From what I remember, he was a solid defender too.

Well, with Cato out, do we even HAVE a backup Center??

Yao can't play all 53 minutes every night, especially against
    the Shaq-Daddy.

Ewing, as much as we all have cool feelings towerd him, could
combine with Oakley to give Shaq and their Euro backup a good
old-fashioned 40-Year-Old-Plus 12 fouls hard 'cross the noggin'
    tonight.

Plus, think of the novelty factor! Whatcha think ESPN will open with
    in the AM, eh?

It all reminds me of an old obscure quote I read somewhere:
    (roughly remembered)

A true man knows when to
    Parley opportunity into victory.
    Relying on solely on yourself
    Is rarely an option,
Leaving him on an island, so to speak.
    Finding one's center,
    One's purpose,
One's gravitas verite , if you will,
    Lifts him above the ordinary.

    ;)
