So, how late to the party am I on this one? I just read about it this weekend. I did a cursory check to see if this upcoming documentary on the Police has been discussed and came up empty. However, with the number of Police fans in this forum, I find it hard to believe it hasn't. Anyway, Copeland finally got around to doing something with the shoeboxes full of Super 8 film he shot of his old band reaching back all the way to '79. All the footage was shot by Stew and he does all the narration. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing this. http://music4film.com/index.cfm?JID...E44820BF92392&Fuseaction=home.show&StoryID=19
This is going to be friggin' excellent! I remember seeing videos and photos of the band with Stu and his camera and finally we will be able to see this footage!
Actually you aren't that late. I just found out about it last night. I saw on the news that the film will be making it's premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Should be great for Police fans.
Hopefully it's the original one and not the crappy re-hash done on their greatest hits album. If it's the reheated one, they may want to go with "King of Pain."
You know, not many people know the original line was "Roxanne, you don't have to wear those skates tonight".
I heard about this and DAMN STRAIGHT I'm excited. The only thing I'm worried about is that I might have already seen a lot of this footage. I have a huge collection (on VHS) of stuff Stewie shot with is camera while on tour. MTV showed a lot of it back in the early 80's and I recorded it. Hopefully it's stuff that no one has seen before. Even still, I can't wait!
Is this something different from his punk rock documentary that I remember Copeland showing clips from on Letterman in the mid '80s?
alot of documentaries that premiere at Sundance this year are music themed, including a doc about hip-hop, another about punk rock, and the Beastie Boys concert film shot by 50 fans, "Awesome, I F*cking Shot That"
One thing is that I hope this film has rave reviews and becomes a massive hit. Maybe, JUST MAYBE it will force Sting to swallow his pride do the right thing: REUNION TOUR
With all the other reunion tours that have gone on, I'm surprised the Police haven't done it by now. Hell, even the Cars are getting back together with Todd Rundgren doing the Rik Ocasek role since Rik doesn't want anything to do with it. Personally, I'm waiting for The Jam to do a reunion tour (yeah riiiiiiight...never happen in a million years)
Never say never. Over the past 10 years there has been a kind of third generation mod scene happening, that has been really big lately with bands like Franz Ferdinand seeing success. Maybe the Jam will come back and claim their role as the godfathers of it all.
I really doubt Sting will put the Police back together, he and A&M own the rights to The Police songs and he sings them at regularly at his concerts plus he has a very successful solo career, so I feel he thinks he has no need to.. One thing I have learned about Sting is he is all about making new music and not rehashing the old stuff.. I would be happy if the did get back together, but IMO Sting is a better artist by himself than he was with The Police and I would like to see him use his time to make more solo albums rather than eat up time touring and such.. I know I am definitely in the minatory who think this about the Police so don’t chastise me over this please..
Yeah, I saw an interview with the 3 of them, I think during their HOF induction. Andy and Stewie are down, but when they asked Sting about a reunion, his one-word response was......"why?" followed by condescending laughter.
Only if they do not include Paul Weller, which is like having a Who reunion without Pete Townshend. Weller has refused each and every offer they've received for a reunion tour, and his relationship with his two other bandmates in the Jam is strained, to say the least. A Jam reunion tour is never gonna happen.
