dude has skills. everyone allways complains about reece gaines and the scrub of all scrubs boki nacbar, but i feel hawkins should stay on the roster because he could be a good back up shooting guard to mcgrady and he is big enough to play the small forward position as well.

Since there are 15 roster spaces, there's a decent chance that Hawkins will make the team. But his upside, unless NBA scouts misjudged him to the level of someone like Marquis Daniels, is less than Boki or Gaines.

I was at the first game. From there, Hawk certainly impressed me. Looked like he played his heart out. If there's room, I'd love to keep him.
    Dude's got hustle. He's scrappy.

I saw on the NBA DRAFT. Net sight (good web site) - that Hawk was predicted to go 44th (2nd round) this season, but he went undrafted. Clearly he was on the NBA radar (abiet way to the outer edge)

... he is a little chunky and clumsy going to the whole (kind of 2-sandwiches-esque) but he wants to make this team.

but I think that Gaines and Zimmerman showed some upside too - so don't write those guys off ... maybe a phantom injury might be headed their way

being fat doesnt mean ****. charles barkley was a fat a$$, but he still carried his weight around and used it to his advantage to get rebounds. and how can you say hawkins is less than gaines and nacbar when both of them are below average players? them (gaines, boki) and hawkins are on the same level. i only seen gaines play ball twice for the rockets. and so far i havent been impressed. and dont get me started on wackbar.

Unfortunately for Hawkins, his game is working inside, on the drive, etc.

He is not a good shooter and has little range. Thats going to hurt him.

...he just needs to change his name to Davidjan Hawkbar and that skill set would get him 2 years of amnesty....;)

You had a post like this in the other thread, about how Hawkins is better than Gaines.

    What's with the man-crush? :D

Well since Gaines already has a guaranteed contract, he is going to get his shot regardless of his play in this preseason.

Hawkins will be booted out, as we have no need for a sg that can't shoot, and already have plenty of options at the sf.

lay off of the coffee (or the nachos) dude - my whole post was giving Hawk props (I even pointed out the little discussed fact that he was on the NBA draft radar as a middle 2nd rounder - higher than the guy we got)

I didn't say he was fat either, I said he was a "little chunky" - but he wants to make this team (which is GOOD!)

I never mentioned BOKI - and all I did was complement Zim and Gaines too

... so please relax (and have another sandwich)

When it comes down to yoru 12th man type player, I don't think it should really matter what position the guy is. Just keep the absolute best player, because if he's going to be your 12th man, then obviously he isn't filling a gaping hole in your team's roster.

Don't forget Hawkins is playing against complete scrubs out there. The defense they bring would make anyone look good (except maybe Boki).

Never seen Hawkins play. Will watch this evening. But I would love to get a instant scorer like a "Andre Emmitt" type. I'm not sure Hawkins fits that description or not.

I want to see more of them both. Gaines might be better in the long run. But Hawk has some decent *inside* moves. We'll see.

I want to see both of them against better competion. Also, I want to see how JVG uses Gaines? SG/SF and some PG?

We still need to improve our outside shooting roster. Someone...Hawk wont help us there.

I thought Hawkins looked terrible against the Kings. He was playing totally out of control with wild drives at the heart of the defense and quick threes from another time zone. He reminded me of all of the worst parts of Steve Francis, so I guess it isn't surprising that a vocal minority would support him here.

In about 6 minutes per game he is averaging 6 ppg. I think by judging that he could definitely be worth keeping on the roster. True he cant shoot that well, but he can always work on his shot. Give Hawkins a chance!

Ohh, stupidmoniker, too bad whe don't share your aficionado's appreciation for the beautiful game of two handed set shots and chest passes and running the picket fence like Jimmy Chitwood. Yes, only a true purist like you can eradicate the nuisance of cocky, ice wearing, pimped out streetballers that is a stain upon our national honor.
