I have never posted a thread since I became a member, but me and some friends around town have been debating this, and I get both answers. Therefore I ask you guys...

If the Rockets get out of the First Round this year, would Tmac be given credit in actually record books (not just by the opinions of ROX FANS) of getting out of the first round?

And I preface my question by reminding that ALL players that played for the rockets this year would get a ring if we won it all, so do ALL players that were on this Roster at the time of the playoffs get credit for those playoff wins? (since he will still be on our roster, just inactive)

Again, don't abuse me for asking a random question, I know how some of you get when you see a fairly new member asking stupid questions, but this is one that I have got different answers to, so I just wanted to know what you would think, or if any of you have the ACTUAL answer.

Thanks Guys and as always,GO ROCKETS!

Record book is not important in this case.

No matter what record book saya, no matter Tmac played how well in past playoffs, if Rox passed 1st round this year, this will not look good for him. it will be used as an argument against Tmac unless he goes to a differenct team and passes 1st round as the main guy, which is not likely to happen anymore.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. That will be what people remember in the near future. It could be worse for him than losing another series himself if a mcgrady-less team wins one

Wait, im getting the vibe that the circumstances of getting past the 2nd round (if/when we do) should be taken into consideration over anything else.

In Houston, TMac lost against a VERY GOOD Jazz team twice. If we advance this year, it will be against a team that is suffering an injury just like us (Utah, Suns, New Orleans) OR is nowhere nearly as talented as those Jazz teams (Mavs, Blazers)
The only situations where Tmac would actually be forever in the gutter is if we beat the Lakers (keep dreaming), Spurs or Denver.

    yes he would.

but in reality, we all know he shouldn't. and he'll be judged that way.

tracy did an admirable job last year. if we had a healthy team, tracy would have led us past the first round.

we have a much more talented team this year so i hope we will do it. tracy hasn't really been a part of this year's team.

I think the question is whether or not the "Tracy McGrady can't get out of the first round" stigma will be removed or not. And I think the obvious answer is no, it won't.

It will be treated the same as Darko Milicic's championship ring. Techinically speaking since Tmac is still part of the team he's considered to have gone to the 2nd round, but I highly doubt people will accept it if we do make it without him. When talking about his accomplishment 10 years from now people will still say hadn't made it out of the 2nd round, except during the 09 season when he was injured and his team the Houston Rockets won it third championship ;)

Closer to home it will be like the Vernon Maxwell championship ring in year 2....where he was told to go away, and the team won a ring, he still got his but he was not part a big part of the playoff run.

Personally, I hope it happens because it would be good for the Rocekts and a great life lesson for Tmac.

You're fooling yourself if you think this is true. If the Rockets advance to the second round regardless of who they beat - it will make McGrady look bad. A "superstar" has never been past the first round, suddenly he goes out and the team advances? The is too good for the media to pass up. It doesn't matter who they beat - it'll make Tracy look bad
