I was talking with a friend earlier about how I got one of my first jobs. That made me think....have you ever done something that just made you feel like crap, but you got away with, and then came back to admit your wrong doing?

I'll try to make this story as short as possible.

There was a game room close to my house. You would win tickets and redeem them for prizes. So I had saved up about 4,000 tickts on a voucher. Well one day at my (at that time) current job I had an idea. I made copies of the voucher, and cut them out perfectly. The next day I went in and spent $5 or so to win some tickets, gave them those tickets and a fake voucher. What do I get in return? A real voucher. The only difference was the paper type, but I guess they just couldn't tell. The vouchers were also supposed to be signed, but they weren't. So I did this a few times, and also combined a few of the vouchers and ended up with about 60,000 tickets. I used this to get a Nintendo 64, they had just come out so I was really excited. I also got a remote control car and gave the remaining tickets to a little kid. So after a few days of thinking about it I was driven crazy and decided I should be punished. I gave the Nintendo 64 and car to my brother and went to buy another Nintendo 64. I took it to the place and told them what I had done. Don't ask me why I didn't just take the car back too. Well after this a few days later I decided to get an extra job, so I apply there and for some reason THEY HIRED ME! That turned out to be one of the best jobs I've ever had, it didn't pay great, but there were days that I actually looked forward to going. I ended up getting fired because I called the head manager lazy about a year and a half later, but I did enjoy working there.

I was just wondering if you've ever done anything and then came back to 'fess up for it knowing what you had done was wrong.

So, you screwed the place and then they hired you? That makes sense.

Here's my story...I'm a kid and I'm probably about 10 years old. I was pretty innocent at that time but one of the older kids in my neighborhood had this deal where he would steal candy from the local 7-Eleven and always had something to munch on. He showed me how it was done as I wanted in. So, I took that and ran with it. Unfortunately, I took it to extremes so here I am stealing candy(mainly the 3 cent individual wrapped candy) left and right. Even with all the mirrors, the store clerk was completely oblivious. I'm a regular little thief. I used to walk in to the store with jeans on with holes in the knees. I would tuck the jeans into my shoes and start stealing/putting the candy in the knee holes until it piled up. Then, I would walk out of the store full of candy making a dribble trail on the way out...lol. So, I ended up with a big paper grocery bag full of candy which my parents abruptly found. They made me return all of the candy to the store and confess to the store clerk(who was a foreigner of course). So, I had a forced confession...not really one that came out of guilt. I'm kind of glad it happened as being a thief was really getting to my head. It set me straight before it got more serious. I did eat a lot of candy, though.

In 7th grade our class was in a side hall waiting for another class to get out. Bored with our backs against the wall, we began to kick the wall which made a loud noise. We of course the harder you kicked the louder the noise. I ended up kicking a hole in the wall.

The ass. Principal pulled us all aside after our class was out and asked who did it. I confessed under the assumption that someone in the 30 kids would tell anyway at sometime (there were a bunch of stoolies this class though I might not have been turned in for various reasons) but I thought I might as well make things easier on myself if I turned myself in. I was obviously remorseful as it wasn't my intent to make a hole though I was responsible for it and was willing to accept that. I knew I'd be in trouble from my parents and they I/we'd have to pay for the damage. But he took things further, telling me I was going to be sent back to elementary school and I have to earn my way back to 7th grade. He even went and "got the forms". Basically lying to me to scare an already scared and remorseful kid more. He ended up being a "nice guy" and expelling me for 3 days and having us pay the repairs.

    What a putz he was.

Back in the day when basketball cards came in packs of 18 (I was an avid collector as a kid), I would do almost anything to get my hands on some packs because my parents didn't condone spending money on a hobby that ultimately would amount to nothing (on a sidenote, damn were they wrong. those things skyrocket in price if you have a very valuable piece). anyway, there was a wal-mart right next door to where i used to live. They would always have tons of cards right near the cashier's. what i'd do is go there as soon as i got in the store, pick up a few packs, walk around the length of the store, find either a nice secluded spot or go to the bathroom (for some reason, there was no security alarm things before the bathroom) to open the packs, stick them in a plastic baggy i'd bring along, and then just stroll on out of there.

The reason I did this was because many of my friends (lived in Alief at the time) felt that ripping off Wal-mart was only natural because they'd raised prices on us (we were worldly kids, apparently). They had a little stealing ring I'd somehow gotten involved in: board games, odds and ends, game boy games, etc. We would all get together to play with what we'd taken and laugh and have a good time every Thursday and saturday afternoon. We'd take the bigger things out piece by piece or divide up the stuff and everybody take some in their clothes.

Well, after about a year of this, I met an older guy who was about 45 at the time working a cashier at Wal-Mart. I'd gone with my mom because she needed to run some errands and this time I hadn't stole anything. When he saw me, he started talking with my mom about how he had 5 (!!!) kids of his own and this was one of his 2 jobs; his wife also worked 2 jobs. Having a face on the "evil corporation" made me want to stop...after all, i didn't want people stealing from my parents...so i went back to him a few weeks later and confessed to him about the cards...he got all parental and serious and told me that it was wrong and i shouldn't doi t anymore.
