He had his nice moments with us in 04-05, during the regular season, 13 pts in 33, had that game winning in the playoffs, but historically Mac was never a really clutch player. I can tell you from watching him in Orlando from 01 to 04, I can maybe count of 1 game winner he had. He was NOTHING like Kobe, or even Wade. He was a jumpshooter who could get to the line on occasion, but he never was really that effective in the 4th. He was never capable of those crazy 4th quarters that we see out of Kobe, Lebron, or Wade. Even in his prime when he went up against Kobe, he NEVER could outplay Kobe, and Mamba would always have the last laugh. See this video.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugkFcXpRan4 Anyways, the point is that whining about not having a healthy Tracy is not the answer, he was never a closer, and when gimpily comes back in 09-10, he won't be a closer. Morey has got to find someway , somehow to lure a closer to this team in 2010. Joe Johnson even maybe, just some guard who can beat his man off the dribble. Yao can't be counted on, McGrady has failed far too many times, AB aint ready for it, and Ron Ron just goes beserk sometimes. Dwade is obviously the pipe dream
You bull****tin with this one bruh... all the got damn games we needed to close out and mac killed it in the end...you lost me with this...
Hawks fans have been complaining about Joe Johnson's consistency down the strech of 4th quarters. Guess we should scratch him off the list too.
Dude, that's not the point. The point is, in years past, he usually makes sound decision with the ball near the end of games, which makes everyone and the team better. (Some playoff disappearance excluded)
clutch plays are not necessarily game winning shots. and obviously tracy doesn't make a high % of his shots in clutch situations either. the point is he rarely makes MISTAKES with the ball down the stretch. we will at least get a shot up. he's a good decision maker.
The Rockets won a lot of close games where the primary play we ran down the stretch was a high pick and roll with McGrady. He didn't have to shoot it every time like Kobe did against us. He would draw double teams, and he would it kick it to the open guy. It opened up other players and helped produce better shots in the offense. Also, when you taking to account how many shots he creates, McGrady always had one of the lowest turnover-rates in the league. We don't have that security blanket any more. Yao is turnover-prone when he receives double teams, and he doesn't handle different looks defensively very well (never has).
In my opinion a clutch player means a player that can take over a game single handily in the fourth quarter, consistently.
And that is the definition IMO as well. Tmac could get others shots, but never consistently score , which is what Kobe/Dwade/Bron do
Nah players like James Posey and Will Smith opps I mean Robert Horry don't take over 4th qtr. It's all about hitting the tough shots or making plays when the pressure is on. Tmac is not an elite clutch player like Dwade, Kobe, etc but he's above average when healthy. Yao is below average.
That is half of a clutch player. Or should i say that Kobe is game changer not a clutch player? either way. we don't have any of the above lol
the logic behind this thread: MacYao's hero/idol Yao, once again proved himself a liablity on both ends in the 4th. so bashing Tmac makes him feel a bit better about being a Yao fan this thread should end right here.
I don't think they are half a clutch player. Kobe just fits in more categories and one of them is "clutch".
What's funny about this thread is we have one-half of the pitchfork holders saying TMac doesn't get others involved, and this guy with his pitchfork is saying he wouldn't take/hit the clutch shot at the end. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
