How come Spanoulis could never complete a pick and roll with the Rockets? His pass would be off, deflected or stolen. Teams play better defense here. Even if your boy Spanoulis makes it in the NBA, he will be a marginal point guard. He's either a back up or a starter for a secondary team.
You know what? Last year the Rockets had nobody capable of rolling outside of Yao, and he has average hands at best. Can you imagine V-Span running it with Landry, or Scola? My guess is that he would look a lot better with this group of players.... DD
I might be the only one, but I thought most of those plays were common little plays that jr high kids do all the time.
Clearly you have not watched many junior high games. Sam, fair point. Maybe over Francis or BJax......but it is all speculating fo-sure. DD

ironically enough, I watched the last 3 quarters of a game btween PANA and some team with a name like AEG or something on saturday since I was in belgium and had nothing else to watch on TV. I was not impressed with the quality of play very much. First off - the game really DID look it was being played in a barn. It was like a high school gymnasium (AEG's stadiium) - there were no seats on the side of the court (only a wall and a balcony on the side, two stories? And the players sat in those cheap plastic chairs that you put outside?) There were some small bleachers behind each basket, i'd say a few 1000 people at most were there. The game itself - Former Grizzlies cast-off Mike Batiste was clearly the best player on the court. He looked like a poor man's amare stoudemire and was way too athletic for the opposition, which also had a few american big men. The top scorer I think was Jasikevicus who scored with a bunch of slow motion loopy looking drives which were absent during his timie in the NBA. Spanoulis looked OK but didn't do too much, a few drives, a few clanged jumpers, a few passes. Not much defense but then nobody seems to play defense at all in that league - they just play a crappy looking half-hearted zone and attempt to play the passing lanes. Overall I was not very impressed except with Batiste who could probably crack an NBA rotation. Oh yeas I should mention that there was a guy who I believe was former NBA guard & Houston Cougars star Anthony Goldwire playing for the other team who must be closing in on 40, but he was able to get into the lane at will - though spanoulis and diamanitidis didn't put forth much of an effort to stop him.
I dunno, would you rather have Beno Udrih? He sucked on the Spurs but now he's shining on the Kings. Sometimes a change of scenery brings out the best in a player.
Interesting to see a mention of Qyntel Woods. I wonder if he has made amends to Peta and grown up. Otherwise, that's a lot of wasted talent.
As good as Rafer has been, I believe if VSpan was still here, he would be the starting PG under Rick Adelman.
Hehehe, I knew that would get a rise out of you. If I could prove what I've seen I'd take your bet. I bet I've seen ten times as much of him as you have, unless you watched him in the Euroleague for two solid years.
Two years? I feel sorry for you. It took me two hours of watching Euroleague to reconfirm that he wasn't good enough to play in the NBA, especially in the context of his comments last year. He can't shoot and can't defend. He doesn't seem especially quick - Anthony Goldwire seemed much faster (I still can't believe Goldwire is playing). He hates playing defense - he made that clear when he asked the Rockets to switch to zone for him last year. I still can't believe he had the audacity to make that request - so let's add "think's he's Michael Jordan" to the list of defects. That skill set (not fast, can't shoot, can't/won't defend, thinks he's god) leaves a 6-3 shooting guard in the NBA with very few job prospects. I'm not even going to mention his historic turnover issues which preclude him from playing another spot. Now that doesn't mean he can't play basketball in barns. Look at Jasikevicus. He was a complete failure in the NBA, he was too slow, he couldn't get his shot off, etc. In a weaker league he looks like a superstar. In the NBA for 82 games a year not so much. Spanoulis embarrassing NBA career gives us every indicaton that, like the vast majority of players in the minor leagues, he can't cut it, much less become a starter in the league. But hey, he can flourish in Barn Ball with the Mike Batistes and Anthony Goldwires of the world. Good for him, that's where he belongs. Because as a rookie in the NBA, he made Aaron Brooks look like Magic Johnson.
He would be very effective playing for Adelman, maybe we can bring him back next year, he has a zero buyout.. DD
