I was going to post this in the Rox actions and moves forum but thought this would be better here. This has to do with a poster noticing that JVG has stopped playing the white players on the Rox.

Speaking of that I'm just curious. How many Latin American NBA players are there? I know there are some Spanish ones but I'm not sure about Latin America. Are there any Jewish NBA players currently playing? What about Native Americans? Asian Indians? Arabs?

Its seems like many of the pro-sports in the US are getting segregated by particular ethnic and class distinctions.

Pro-Basketball has become dominated by inner-city African-Americans and Eastern Europeans. (with the glaring exception of one big Chinese center who has been dominating in the past few games. :D )

Pro-Baseball is dominated by Latin Americans and suburban whites.

Pro-Football is dominated by African Americans and rural/suburban whites.

Pro-Hockey is dominated by Canadians, Eastern Europeans and suburban whites.

Pro-Golf is dominated by upper class suburban whites. With the big exception of a Cablanasian.

Pro-tennis is dominated by suburban whites, with the exception of the Williams sisters, at least in the US.

Pro-Soccer dominated in the US by suburban whites.

Anythoughts? Perhaps we need an affirmative action program to even things out like getting more African Americans and Hispanics to play hockey and Eastern Europeans to play baseball.

Well, there is at least one Latin American NBA player: Eduardo Najera is Mexican. And there have been some Jewish NBA players in the past. Danny Schayes, for one (and there have been a lot of Jewish coaches).

    Don't forget about Carl Herrera.

I'm not sure it is a problem that certain races predominate in certain sports. What would be a problem is if race was a barrier to entry. I think the exceptions you noted show to what extent pro sports is a meritocracy.

What does it matter? A lot of people down South didn't play hockey because......ding, ding...there is no ice here! So what do we need, an affirmative action program to get more southern blacks and whites on the ice?
