Hey, Ric Bucher answered my Rockets question. ;)

Not like it is a big shock that we are looking at Stromile. But nice to hear Ric say that's the case. ;)

Here's hoping we can get him, then. We know he'd like to be in Houston; but CD's gonna have to pull off some magic. Atlanta and New Orleans are suckhole teams, but if someone came to me and said, "We'll pay you 50% more than that other team," it'd be tough.

And if we're looking for shot-blocking, just bring in Badiane.

I'd rather trade for Cato than get Swift

Ok, looking at him is cool. If JVG thinks he can work with him in this system and we can afford him then fine.

I just can't believe he'd be JVG or CD's first choice. The thing about Swift coming here is that he'd be under less pressure from the contract he'll demand with Yao and T-Mac on the floor, but conversely it's a longshot that he'll be worth his contract.

He's not my first (or second) choice, but I have to admit it would be interesting.

JVG and CD can just follow the plan I outlined in an earlier thread.

    • Sign Stromile with the MLE
    • Trade Mike James for a S&T Antonio Daniels
    • Trade Wesley for a S&T Sprewell

    PG: Daniels/Sura/Spanoulis
    SG: Sprewell/Barry {2005 1st round pick BPA}
    SF: McGrady/Bowen
    PF: Swift/Howard
    C: Yao/Deke

Nice mix of youth and veterans. Huge upgrade in quickness/footspeed. Shot blocker at the 4. Defensive wing in Sprewell that can also be our 3rd Scorer. Solid player in Daniels at the PG spot with nice playoff experience. You would then have Sura/Howard/Deke/Barry and our 1st round pick off the bench which would be pretty solid!

I think of our team as a team that players should want to play for. We are not looking for people who want to lead the team, just fill in holes. We can't go and pay people like Moochie the years and dollars and be stuck with mediocre players. I like Stromile, but for the right price and year deal. Long term low pay or short term med/high pay. We have to realize that players want to come here and let them go if they start seeing dollar signs. I'm all about winning and that means we have to hold back every once in a while and shop around. We've got the two biggest pieces.

I agree. Swift is too young to give up the bucks for the chance of a championship.

C'mon, Hawks, swoop in and give Str a preemptive contract. Dave us from him.

(Stro is a J-Kidd kind of 4, and, no kidding, Jason will not be a Rock.)

Absolutely,if Stromile would take less to come play for a title contender,I welcome him with open arms, otherwise, there are other fish in the sea.

Well don't forget the hawks just got al harrington last off season. So Swifts going to have to play center if he goes there.

If He wants to go to New Orleans, PJ Brown is there; so if they do get swfit then I'd try to take PJ Brown from them.

ANd i'd love for either of them to tie up swift because then it would be one less team to competeting to sign other free agents.

Glad to hear the Rockets are going after an agile shotblocker. Even if they’re unable to get Swift, a second shotblocker should be who they go after to play the 4. A power forward like Swift would do wonders for this team.

Question: would it be worth it to take on Brian Cardinal’s contract in order to entice the Grizzlies to do a sign-and-trade for Swift? Cardinal’s got a pretty bloated contract, but he would be a decent backup at the 3 for Mcgrady.

i'd be happy with stomile but unless someone can convince me he can put his attitude and laziness behind him, i think i'd rather have SAR.

Rahim would not be good for this team. First, he will be the third option on the Rox. His scoring will go significantly down. Second, he is an average defender at best. We need someone that guards the big 4s in the West. Third, we need a shot blocking 4 to come to the weak side in defending the pick and roll. Yao has been rotating to the weak side and getting into foul trouble.
I agree that Swift needs an attitude adjustment. I don't think Coach will let him get lazy. However, I am tired of the SAR bandwagon. Rahim would do better in the East like the Nets

Juwan can only play the PF position. He's at the point in his career where he just wants to win, however hw wants to be a contributor. He will not settle as a backup for Swift. He's better than Swift. Besides, why would you have a PF who makes starter money play 5-10 minutes a game? We could use the money for a starter. You don't want the money tied up in bench players.
We already have enough of those (Mooch, Baker, Weatherspoon)

I think lots of people here have it backwards they will not get Stromile Swift with the MLE, they have a better chance of doing the MLE with Daniels they will need to sign and trade for Swift maybe with our expiring contracts or it may actually involve our pick and use the draft for athleticism at the two, three or four position.

What is the first day that we'll get a shot at signing free agents?
