link http://sports.espn.go.com/stations/player?id=4089307 just listened to it in my car. Charles basically gave praise of Yao saying how skilled and talented he is and how physically imposing he is on the other teams defense Charles was basically mad that the Rockets didn't get him the ball the last game and said that "Yao should have cursed somebody out" He said the only weakness Yao has is mentally. Yao should impose his will on game and he'll dominate. I know you can download the podcast, it probably won't be available til later today or tommorow on espn's site.
tell barkley he can forget about that notion. Yao is asian! he aint gonna curse no one out unless u have someone rape his mom or wife! that will bring the devil out of him.
Dude, Yao was about to beat down Greg Oden last night. I think Yao's attitude has completely changed.. for the better!
One of the problems is that the refs do not allow Yao to be physical. Every time he tries, the opposing players flops and he gets called for a foul. I was very surprise he didn't get called for a foul aftef getting tangled with Oden.
I absolutely don't agree with Adelman or some of his defenders on this board claiming that using Yao as a decoy all game and basically reacting to the defense is the way to go offensively when Yao is being fronted. You always want the ball in your best player's hands. I trust Yao's judgement over Brooks' or Artest's to get us high percentage shots whether he's taking the shots himself or a teammate is getting an open look off of ball rotation. I get a headache just trying to recall the ridiculous number of times that Yao calls for the ball and the passer gets too scared to release the ball to him, instead opting to dribble around the perimeter or swing the ball weakside en route to another broken/empty possession Great players and great teams make the defense react - not vice versa.
Dude was in foul trouble last night because of those whack calls, but I was mad that we didn't work hard enough to give him the rock and partly mad at him for not demanding the damn ball. You have to want it bad enough. I'd rather he take a shot with the clock running down than artest jacking it from beyond the arc anytime.
I was hoping Yao would dominate after Deke left on a stretcher, but instead he kind of... disappeared.
Dude is right this time, Yao need impose his will first to RA, "the game plan is pass the ball to me!".
Yao can be taken of the game by the fronting so easily. I do not know why, and how, but I do know that you can not win a NBA title by building him as the first option, then he can not even touch the ball. Barkley should teach some techniques to our coach concerning on the fronting, so he and Yao can learn something about the fronting or the rockets may need think about trading Yao for Adelman's player to do something differently.
And Charles is right (once again), we gotta get Yao the ball especially down the stretch. I keep hearing people saying we shot over 50% but down the stretch with Portland guys in foul trouble we failed to make them pay for that and the one part where we struggled offensively it cost us. But we did what we needed to do and that is when at least one game in Portland, so hopefully we protect home court.
Yao just doesn't have that killer instinct. If he would ever just say "You know what, give me the damn ball and I'll take care of this", the Rockets would be in GREAT shape. Unfortunately, he never does that and guys like Ron Artest and Aaron Brooks decide to take the final shots.
according to some ccfans here, barkley can't be more wrong. look, we shot 50% despite not getting yao involved. adelman and crew look forward to beating the blazers handily by shooting our high % jumpers in the remaining games.
the problem I have is how we worry Yao will foul out. So what? Having Yao out there means a better chance of not taking a bad shot or forcing a turnover. If Yao fouls out, then at least we could have had some decent possessions. I like Scola, but he's going to be as consistent as Yao on the low post, plus Yao helps on the boards. He's gotten better at that.
I agree. Yao barely touch Pryzbilla and the dude dive in front row. Yet he allow to push Yao with 2 hands. Let face the fact that Stern don't want old traditional center like him anymore. It's not sexy as Howard, no high rating less $$. And Stern is all bout money not for the integrity of basketball game. NBA referee is a joke.
i agree. the coaches and yao himself cannot be too worried about his foul situation. 4 fouls in the 3rd should not automatically equal taking him out. we were getting our thing going, but lost our lead after yao sat after his 4th foul (a shady call).
Yao still does not get it. He needs to impose his will on the games. 6 shots is a joke he needs to demand the ball and if he is getting call on bs fouls he needs to make those fouls count. He can not just stop being aggresive. Yao should be taking at least 20 shots per game.
