Not much info but I figured I'd post anyway... Can't wait to see what kind of improvement Dwight shows next season to see if the Dream's coaching helped at all.
not sure how much it's going to help Dwight. If Shaq wasnt such an ass he would be a better mentor for Dwight. Hakeem was all finesse and footwork. No amount of training will help Dwight do what the Dream did. Kobe is a better student for the Dream than Dwight.
he has worked out with Yao before of course Yao has to be healthy for him to work out with him the last time Yao had a healthy summer? 2007 and thats when he did work with Hakeem
He can work with Hakeem 24/7, that doesn't change his foot problems. Yao's offense/defense is fine, his health is not.
All finesse and footwork? You're selling out the powerhouse that was Hakeem Olajuwon, merely because he ALSO had those traits. I agree it will take more than this training for Dwight to hold a candle to the Dream.
He worked out with Yao multiple times in the past couple of years, IMO Yao is already great center the only thing he is lacking is health.
I can't believe people buy Insider. Its a waste of money. You can just read this story for free on Yahoo. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AjKq9ur2wALaOLnh0xKtjyu8vLYF?slug=ap-magic-howard
Its not about finesse. Hakeem was finesse but he had power and athleticism too more than the likes of guys like todays centers. Dwights probably working on footwork and faceup moves. Hakeem also had handles so he probably learned some dribbling and post up techniques and what to use on certain moves for hooks and spin moves. Alot went into Hakeems repertoire. its probably the most complete move list of any player let alone center. He is more like Kobe at center minus the three point range.
I don't think Dwight can learn to be unafraid as Hakeem talked about. I think that mindset is innate, to have the basketball creativity. There are players who can do great moves by just instincts, they think of it on the fly, during the moment. Dwight has always been a very methodical player who thinks about his moves before he does them. That creates a lack of creativity because he's set in the move he wants to do and doesn't adjust, which is the opposite of what Hakeem was.
Kudos to Hakeem for being a good teacher and kudos for Dwight for being a willing learner. Too many athletes these days......cough....cough.....LeBron.... think they know everything and aren't humble enough to learn from their elders. And to all the people who are bashing Hakeem, Hakeem can work with whoever the hell he wants! He isn't employed by the Rockets, even though I think the organization should offer him some sort of position on their staff like Ewing with the Magic.
i understand this is the google age of rockets fans, but don't understand why they don't just google it up if yao has worked with hakeem. i guess people always make assumptions in their minds.
You can get the magazine for $3/yr (when you wait for the deal) and Insider is included for free. Geez your a cheapskate
3$ a year!? jesus christ ppl are rich these days. Do you have any idea what I could buy with 3$? An ice cream sandwich, some bubblegum, and can of sprite is easily worth more than that Insider deal.
shaq worked with hakeem. a lot. right after dream swept his a$$. you dont need to teach powering through ppl. you DO need to teach post moves, positioning, mentality.
Hakeem loves the sport of basketball, and thats why he helps anyone who asks for his advice, to make the game and the players better.
