Updated: August 11, 2009, 11:56 AM ET West's pecking order has familiar flavorEmail Share STAY AHEAD OF THE GAME Become an Insider Today By John Hollinger ESPN.com Archive OK, hungry fans, it's time to turn our attention to the Western side of the menu, after Monday's look at the new pecking order in the East. I'm not sure the pecking order in the West is quite so "new;" less changed in these parts since the end of last season. But I'm here to break it down all the same. Much like the East, the West can be broken into five distinct groups. Make that five and a half, actually, as there's one additional category we didn't have in the East. I think we'll probably be amongst the Group III teams. Absolute best case scenario -- no additional major injuries, Brooks and Landry improve, Andersen is solid, Ariza improves as an offensive player and becomes an elite defender, and McGrady comes back and is plays like the team's best player -- we can be a 45-48 win team and break into that Group II.
I think anything ESPN is just insane, if a team doesn't have Kobe or LeBron, then the team must be horrible. Just wait & see, our boys will definitely be better than anyone expected, expect for the loyal fans, we already know how good this team is.
It seems like ESPN STILL thinks McGrady won't come back at all this season. With McGrady atleast some what healthy, and with the GREAT role players he has, this team can win anywhere around 46-52 games.
Say what they want to say. Games are won on the court and not on paper. The Rockets would prove them wrong.
they go by "official" news. until the rockets provide something official with a timetable, they're going to use what morey has always said. that's fine b/c they're a big news sports site.
IMO OKC has a pretty good squad and they have an up & coming All Star in Durant that can lead them to the playoffs. Their young guys are getting experience and they have added big men to their rotation. I believe they'll be in the lower 6th to 8th seed and make the playoffs.
I bet you McGrady has even more motivation with these types of articles calling McGrady off and Rosen calling him soft. 100 % Motivation + Contract Year = ? It should turn out to be great for McGrady.
if tracy can stay on the court, he'll have an all-star type year. he's that good. hopefully motivation can help him prevent further injuries.
Motivation would indeed be a driving factor to prove people wrong and to earn the next contract. On the other hand, preventing injuries is hard to do. Injuries do happen and to the best of them.
To me, I think most of his injuries came from BAD training techniques. Watching McGrady train with Grover and see him in pain made me wince myself. I remember reading a GREAT article saying that bad trainers LEAD to back injuries, knee injuries, and shoulder injuries mostly. T-Mac has HAD all 3 of them. If Grover can continue to train with McGrady and keep him motivated for the rest of his career, hopefully he can turn his career around and regain his form. Hopefully his left shoulder and left knee recovers to 100% and we see a great T-Mac on the court next year.
