for a Longhorn network. 20 year, 300 million-dollar deal http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsport...-purchase-of-longhorns-with-300-million-deal/ https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Morning-Buzz/2011/01/19/Texas-ESPN.aspx http://www.statesman.com/blogs/cont...011/01/19/ut_espn_reach_20year_300_milli.html
Even after 5-7 w/o a bowl game. Texas Longhorns prove to be THE flagship university in the entire state of Texas. SHAMBLES!!!!
I still don't understand who's going to watch this thing. I have to give them credit - no way would I have ever expected them to get $15MM / yr televising 2nd-tier junk. All the good games will be on the other networks. Hopefully they use this money to stop raising ticket prices by obscene amounts every year.
I love this part: As far as distribution is concerned, it’s expected to appear on basic cable platforms in Texas, Oklahoma and possibly parts of Louisiana I'm sure OU is thrilled by this.
I'll probably watch. I always enjoy watching UT-Austin branch get spanked by the likes of UCLA, OU, Iowa State (*snicker*), Baylor (**double snicker**), Kansas State (duh, every year baby!), Oklahoma State and their nemesis A&M. But, on the flip side, this could be a positive for UT-Austin branch. More money for.... Spoiler bailing out their baseball coach and football athletes from the slammer! BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Except none of those games will be on BevoNetwork, unless you're planning on watching them play those teams in swimming or tennis or volleyball. But thanks for being a viewer and contributing cash to UT. They've already allocated $2MM to endowments for 2 new professorships (physics and philosophy, I think)? Apparently, about 50% of the money will go to academics.
I'm glad the money is going towards academics. UT-Austin branch is a state institution, and if they can fund their academics and limit the burden of taxpayers' money to do so, they should.
I go to UT and even I have no desire to watch this network. I think this is going to be a massive failure for ESPN. UT will be running straight to the bank with money they more or less conned from ESPN.
Why would it disband now? I thought the Bevo Network was the goal all along. The complete UT+9 fiefdom has now been set in place with the assistance of the Texas legislature. The only way the conference disbands is if Texas decides it wants to go independent. But would going independent really earn them more money? I mean, they're practically independent now, revenue-wise.
I'm tellin you dudes, UT volleyball will carry this network more than South Park drags comedy central's ass out of the ratings dumpster every year.
a quick google image search tells a different tale, at least in years past. speaking of rice, they had a volleyball recruit from canada that i used to work out with years ago. from another planet kind of hot.
