interesting to see that some people think greene can produce in his rookie year. most of what he've been hearing around here suggests that he is at least a one or two year project... but here's hoping for sooner rather than later.

Why is Greene mostly touted as a pure shooter? His percentages don't jump out at you. In fact, they seems slightly below average.

    Is it his mechanics?

His shot selection has been poor.

Don't think learning from T-Mac is going to help him in that aspect...

I think whoever wrote that is just writing a lot of bull. I doubt Batum will even play this year. Marc Gasol over Rose and others, what the hell.

Did you watch the draft? Bilas kept repeating 20 million times that Greene is bad shot SELECTION shooter, not a bad shooter. He was shooting lights out for most of the year, but faded off during the tail end of the season during his freshman year. He is a good shooter though, just lacks the smarts.

Greene won't have to worry about bad shot selection if he is wide open from the three all day (the doubles drawn by tmac and yao). If he can hit those shots, play good D, and cut well and throw it down...bring on the kid!

(Granted that can be said for any of our player i.e. Steve Novak)

will Oden be considered a true rookie?

ie, will he eligible for Rookie of the Year and/or the Rookie All Star Team?

yes he will..his shot selection is bad meaning he throws up too many jumpers period,,,,,,open or not open......he wont take it to the hole and that wont change in the NBA.......and if all you want is a guy to nail wide open 3s, you already got steve novak.

The difference is Novak don't have the skills to take it to the rack. He would lost the ball if he dribbles more than 3 times. Not enough skills but that shot - a thing of beauty.

Now if Greene can shoot and take it to the inside, then we got a great steal at 28th in the draft.

The question is, will he learn and is he willing to work to improve his game?

It took Yao 5 years to get to where he is today (and he's still getting better). It's going to take Greene a few years to learn to be a basketball player. Having his natural abilities will not hurt.

Greene has better defense than Novak, maybe not effort, but when green wants to be just because he IS faster and more athletic so i would definitely have Greene on the court over Novak even though they both can shoot

I don't particularly agree with Jay Bilas there.

If you're a good shooter with bad shot selection then you are just about as bad, because a good shooter will know what's a good shot to take and what's not.

So what if you can nail shots like a machine when left open, when you're just gonna fire off any and every shot, off-balance, fading away, with guys flying at you that have but a prayer of going in?

Guys like Tmac and Kobe get away with their shot selection because they make a good percentage of their tough shots. Guys like Donte Greene better learn fast how to play to their strengths, or they're gonna be facing the big B word fast.

Yes, just pretend he was drafted in this years class.
