http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=thorpe_david&page=Rookies-080723 [rquoter]The Kevin Durant comparison is an accurate one. When he settles for being just a long-range shooter, he's an ordinary player (at the NBA level). But if he's active as a cutter, sprints the floor in transition and looks to make plays inside, he's a special offensive talent. Just like KD.[/rquoter] I really respect David Thorpe's opinions, so that's encouraging to hear. I wasn't a big fan of Durant's game last year, but I think I'll settle for a "Kevin Durant"-type player for my 25th pick. He doesn't seem to be impressed at all with Dorsey, however. He only made a quick comment on him likely being D-league bound a couple weeks back.
Damn that's a generous comparison. But to be honest, I don't even see Greene being a KD-lite. His playing time is so limited and his shot selection is terrible. We won't really see this kid blossom till his 2nd-3rd year, cause he's going to be at the end of the bench. But still, good to see our rookie get some love from David.
KD is a pretty good example, though I think you can even say the same type of thing about KD that he said about Greene. KD settles a lot for the three pointer, he drives, yes, but you can almost tell that he would rather come off screens and hit an open jumper ala Reggie or Hamilton. My dream player would be a mix of KD's shooting and the Raptor version of Tmac on the defensive end. Here's to hoping.
If you click the link at the bottom of the page, you see that Thorpe rates Greene as the 13th best rookie in the draft. Not bad for going #28.
nice find. All those "active" attributes that he listed are certainly attainable for Donte. We'll just have to see if he can implement them into his game. This is good news on the offensive side. Defensively his has the length and quickness to succeed so my view is looking up on him.
talking about hype... c'mon we watched him play, he is no kevin durant. all he does it chuck it up...oh wait, he is kevin durant.
Some people want him to play in the NBDL?? ha! Kevin Durant V.2 is going to play in the big league this year.
LOL ... Donte Greene could probably average 20 ppg on the Oklahoma City Whatever They're Called next year if he was given the same minutes and chucking license that Durant has gotten. He wouldn't help his team win, but then Durant didn't really help them win either as a rookie.
if that's the case sweet because he doesn't have to carry a team like KD is right now. also.. read this in Dime today about KD.. maybe it's a good comparison..
Clay Bennett gutted that team of any players who could have helped them win last year as an obvious attempt to sour relationships with fans. Durant was played out of position and as the #1 option as a rookie. That's not particularly an easy task. However, I think that the second half of the season, he really started coming on. He averaged 22 points off of 47.64% shooting. That's pretty efficient for a first-year forwarder playing out of position with no point guard and no #2 option. He started to rebound more and as he gains strength, I believe that will be improve dramatically. He needs to tighten up on defense but as a rookie, his stats were pretty freaking impressive.
The last 2 months he was over 50% from the field. He finally figured it out. Next season, you will see a much better player. (I sure hope the Sonics fire Carlesimo next summer).
Haha, how much assists is he going to average? Is he going to average 1? How many shots is he going to attempt? Maybe he will go with 10 more and average 30 shots per game!
