It is a small piece in their new edition of the magazine. I will just type it here since it is pretty short: T-Mac's New Role Tracy McGrady steps off the elevator with Dikembe Mutombo in tow like some kind of lanky, slow-moving bodyguard. The two make their way through the lobby of the Westin hotel in downtown Orlando, oblivious of the fans, the groupies and the $220,000 Bentley coupe with the "Rent Me" sign just outside in the driveway. T-Mac is hours from the biggest regular-season game of his seven-year career, and yet he can barely keep his eyes open. He hasn't been awake 10 minutes, and more sleep sounds like a good idea. Of course, anything would be better than facing the hostile crowd waiting for him at TD Waterhouse Centre on his first visit back since the trade that sent him to H-Town and Steve Francis to O-Town. While the Rockets wait outside their locker room to be summoned into the arena, McGrady stands slightly apart from his 'mates, quiet and maybe a bit nervous, though he would never let on. "It's time," someone finally shouts. McGrady's distant look disappears, and for the next two hours, each time he touches the ball he is booed - relentlessly. But boos don't play D, and McGrady spots up and slashes hi way to 27 points, helping his new team to 108-99 win. As he gives post-game interviews, hundreds of fans crowd the exit of the court to cover him with more boos. As he makes his way back to the visitors locker room, he defiantly flexes his muscles and slowly nods his head D ) Then one fan unfurls a Rockets jersey and shouts, "I still love you, Tracy." McGrady's eyes light up as he points to the fan. In a way, he's looking for that, needs that confused: ). Once on the bus, he sits in his seat and stares out the window, leaving Orlando in a role that's utterly unfamiliar to him - villain. I thought T-Mac was faced with worse things in Toronto when he went back, but it seems like the writer went out of his way to overdramatize the importance of the game a bit. I guess that is what writers do
Thanks for posting that.. Only thing I dont understand why does he talk about the "$200,000 Bently"? What does the Rent me sign have to do with anything??
I cant believe the writer called this "the biggest regular-season game of his seven-year career". I would think that he has had bigger games than this one (returning to Toronto was bigger). And yeah ESPN the mag sucks.
I think it was just mentioned as background info. Ya know when you go to Vegas and they have the cars outside the casinos that you can rent?...kinda like that. Apparently they had a Bentley outside the Westin.
