Jag wideouts must be crying right now.

Yeah, 'cause Gabbert has given them so much to cheer for this season.

Jags have always sucked with wideouts since the Jimmy Smith era. Looks like they're continuing the tradition.

At least the Jags have some entertainment value now. Should have done this before this season to be honest.

I agree they should have done this before the season, but the novelty of Tebow would have only lasted for a season in my head. He's not a legit starting qb, and neither is Henne, but both are good for a few starts and a few wins in the grind that is a 16 game season. It's too bad there doesnt seem to be any sure thing QB picks in this draft, but they sure couldve made some use out of Russell Wilson instead of a freakin punter in the 3rd round.

The jags need to go full r****d and just let Tebow run the whole franchise. Be a college option team or run the wishbone and see how far it'll take you.

They don't have anything better to do but if a team legitimately committed to that type of scheme they'd get eaten. SF would eat that.

No one has stated that he will START for the Jags - just that he will be on that team. They've apparently decided that they will have an open competition for QB. The odds of Tebow winning that competition seem fairly low.

The New York Jets' quarterback situation, which has been slapstick all season, has officially degraded to the "killer joke" status once foretold by Monty Python's Flying Circus. On the flip cards released to the media before the team's game today at MetLife Stadium against the San Diego Chargers, Mark Sanchez AND Tim Tebow were each named as the #2 quarterbacks behind starter Greg McElroy.

In the end, it didn't matter. The Jets lost another game to fall to 6-9, and McElroy was sacked 11 times in the 27-17 defeat to the San Diego Chargers. Perhaps the Jets would have been better off if Tebow, who didn't throw a pass, blocked as some sort of H-back hybrid. McElroy completed 14 of 24 passes for 185 yards and a pick, though he should be given some sort of award for making it through the entire game. The only exciting pass play from the Jets came from the arm of receiver Jeremy Kerley on one of the rare gimmick plays that actually worked out for offensive coordinator Tony Sparano all season. Early in the first quarter, Kerley completed a 42-yard pass to Clyde Gates.

(@MMehtaNYDN)The Jets presumably did this depth chart trickeration because third quarterbacks are inactive, and they want to unleash their new three-quarterback game plan, which will revolutionize the NFL as we know ... aw, hell. We can't finish that sentence with a straight face.

Most likely, the Jets did this to steal all the pre-game Week 16 talk, which they most certainly have done. They also are aware, no doubt, that all active players must make themselves available to the media post-game, while inactive players don't have to. So, their priorities are in order, to be sure.

No truth to the rumor that they've also named Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick as the third quarterback, just for the heck of it.

From a football perspective (as if that matters to this team at this point), the move seemed to have happened after running back Joe McKnight woke up with a migraine, leaving an active roster spot open. Sanchez, benched by head coach Rex Ryan after throwing four picks in last Monday's loss to the Tennessee Titans, has been the subject of multiple trade rumors, though his trade value at this point is limited, to put it kindly. Tebow, who has been used far more as a media lightning rod than as an actual football player, has reportedly requested his trade or release from the Jets, and could very well be a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars' roster in 2013.

So, there you have it. In a game that is so utterly meaningless from a playoff perspective that it was flexed into oblivion from its original Sunday night position, the Jets have still managed to blow up the Twittersphere and the blogosphere at the same time, in one very silly move.

Seemingly, that's all they wanted at this point. However, per one picture taken 15 minutes before the game by ESPN's Jane McManus, it has not had the desired effect on attendance.

I dont see how Gabbert can win the QB battle against Tebow.
I think Tebow is going to start, because if he stays in the bench, then people still wont go to the games, they want to see him play.

So far, Sanchez and McElroy have both beaten out tebow for a starting QB gig - it's not that far-fetched to believe Gabbert could also. They also could bring in any number of free agent options as well.

Should be good competition for Blaine. Probably becomes their starter a few games into the season.

Not much of a change for the Jags.

If Tebow and Gabbert end up being the top competitors for starting QB, the Jaguars are doomed. It will be much worse than the Sanchez/Tebow saga with the Jets. They should dump Gabbert and forget about Tebow.

What is the point of having two guaranteed failures at the QB position? A wise man said those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
