I vaguely remember that there was once a "1+1" penalty rule (FIBA rule) that a team can send any player to the line to shoot free throws if it wasn't the player with the ball fouled. Perhaps a better way to cease the hack-a-shaq?

Of all the things they could be discussing, hack-a-Shaq? How about better referees? Is that too much to ask?

what's wrong with hack-a-shaq? getting fouled and shooting free throws are supposed to benefit your team; you should look forward to being fouled 60 feet away from the basket. if you can't hit them then too bad (same for the rockets). i don't see how hack-a-shaq takes away from the game of basketball anymore than shaq's inability to make free throws.

If they pass an anti-hack-a-shaq rule, then there will still be complaints.

Someone is going to get fouled away from the ball down by 2, and they won't get free throws.

Why worry about hack-a-shaq when shaq wont be in the league in 2years time?
Stern is just want to make life easier for his new blue eyes boy Dwight Howard. Hack-A-Shaq should very soon rename to Hack-A-Dwight!

Shaq should just learn to hit his FTs.

Dwight's 59% FT makes it a 1.2 point per possession, which is higher than NBA high of 1.1 point per possession.

Shaq's 49.4% and 50% in playoff is only 1.0 point per possession, in the long run, they will have an advantage.

god forbid we have to make a player in the NBA shoot an uncontested ball into a hoop when he gets fouled.

Exactly. I can't believe people complain. Technically this rule is put in place to award the team that gets fouled in this scenario. Its called a FREE throw. I know 10yr old girls who can make 8/10. Make them or pay the price. It would be embarrassing if they had to do away with this rule.

Anyone think hack-a-shaq tactic hurts the game? I mean who would want to watch a basketball game simply someone standing behind the line missing freethrows?

Hey Stern, here's a crazy idea... look into punishing players for flopping. It's ruining the NBA if it hasn't already. Falling down easily when there is minimal contact is one thing, but flailing your arms when there is no contact at all is another.

My thoughts exactly when I read that Stern only had two points of contention and neither was flopping :(

More of Dictator Stern doing what he can to make the game more popular to casual fans at the expense of the game itself. Changing rules because players' skills are not what they used to be is ridiculous and it only encourages the next generation of players to not develop their skills.

More suggestions for the good Emperor:

    1. Dribbling is not necessary. That should cut down on TOs and speed up the game.
    2. When a foul occurs the fouled team's best dunker gets a wide open dunk and the amount of points scored is based on what the fans text message to the league ala American Idol.
    3. Move the 3 point line in 3 feet and make shots from behind the old 3 point line worth 4 points.

This should really get the arenas packed and turn the game into something that everyone can love. Please retire or die of a heart attack Mr. Dictator, sir.

I hate this evil dictator Stern who has never even played a single minute of basketball. He wants to turn this great game into a circus. It has been brought to the verge of ruin with ugly dirty fouls and flopping being rewarded. The refs don't have the guts to stop this at all but if you even breathe on the blue eyed boys or play hard, clean basketball one is penalized heavily.
Get rid of him and bring back integrity into the game.

Don't let him see those suggestions. Otherwise #2 will definitely be in play before the playoffs are over.
