"The Cavaliers, Celtics, Bulls, Pistons, Warriors, Rockets, Pacers, Grizzlies, Heat, Bucks, Nets, Knicks, Sixers, Blazers, Spurs, Sonics, Raptors and Wizards all have their full $1.6 million exception available.

Free agents like Keon Clark, Kukoc, Sura, Marcus Fizer, Ron Mercer, Jacque Vaughn, Mike James, Robert Horry, Charlie Ward, Robert Traylor and Tsakalidis probably fall into that pool right now."

"Several teams also have sizeable trade exceptions that could help them land a free agent via a sign-and-trade. The Rockets own an exception from the Tracy McGrady trade worth roughly $5.4 million. The Kings own a $5 million exception that expires Aug. 5. The Nets own a $4.8 million exception from the Kenyon Martin trade. The Warriors own a $3.5 million trade exception that expires Aug. 18. The Bucks own a $2.4 million exception.

The Rockets are looking to land a starting-caliber point guard and a backup center. They'll try to use their trade exception to get one of those, and part, if not all, of the mid-level for the other. The Kings, Nets, Warriors and Bucks all appear inclined not to spend any more money right now."

"The Celtics, Cavaliers, Rockets, Timberwolves, Nets, Knicks, and Sonics have their full $4.9 million mid-level exceptions intact. However, only the Celtics, Rockets and Knicks have shown any inclination to spend it. "

Chad Ford is so busted, again! First of all, the TE was from a Glen Rice trade to Utah last year. Second, it is $6.9M. Third, both Houston and Orlando are over the cap and there would never be a scenario that generates a TE.

Again how much do people pay for Ford's copy and paste "Insider"?

I have to wonder where this $5.4 million idea came from. Is it possible that some of the Rice TE was actually shaved off in the McGrady trade? Like perhaps Lue came in a separate but concurrent deal? He makes $1.5 million. 5.4 + 1.5 = 6.9

You know how to tell when Chad Ford is saying something wrong?

When his mouth is moving.....or in this case when he is typing.

Unless one team already had a TE and was essentially trading it to the other.

I hope Ford is right about the players in the 1.6 million exception range. If any Taylor or Howard deal happens, I would love to see us a sign a warrior like Marcus Fizer. He's very underrated, a JVG style player and for that cheap you can't go wrong.

.....and if all else fails at PG, I would love to see us get Duquesne's own: Mike James!!
    :) :D  ;)

I would sign Fizer for the 1.6 mil. In the middle of the season, there might be a possibility to trade MoT for someone else, thus Fizer could be promoted to be the backup. At the same time, when Howard plays backup C, Fizer could be the backup for MoT at the PF position.
