simmons article with TMac in it (twice) http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/050111 14. Vince and T-Mac Only in the NBA could you have two superstars, both of whom were making $14 million a year at the time, admit after the fact that they didn't give their best in losing situations: Vince in Toronto, T-Mac in Orlando. Good work, fellas. So why would that be one of my 33 favorite things? Because hearing T-Mac and Vince say "You know what? I slacked a little bit on my last team" is a little like hearing Gene Hackman say, "You know what? When I was filming 'The Replacements', I kinda stopped caring there once I saw that Keanu couldn't act." (In other words, you didn't need to tell us. We have eyes.) 6. T-Mac on "Maad Sports" That's the weekly sports show on BET ... I'm probably the only white person in America who has it on their TiVo season pass. Last week's episode centered around T-Mac, who stared into the camera for 30 straight minutes, congratulated himself and talked about how great he was. Then others would come in and do the same about him. Occasionally they would go back to Houston, where the host (can't remember his name, but he broke the record for saying "Know what I'm saying?") and rapper Lil' Flip told us how great T-Mac was. Then they showed footage from T-Mac's charity softball tournament, which had guys like D-Miles and Bo Outlaw playing softball in front of maybe 20 fans (I'm not exaggerating), while everyone talked about how great it was that they were doing this for T-Mac's charity. In fact, we raised 19 bucks! Needless to say, T-Mac's cousin was running this thing -- he looked like a Lester Munson/Don Yaeger investigation waiting to happen. Then, at the end of the show, Lil' Flip randomly attacked some rapper who had insulted him, finishing off the tirade by insulting Unknown Rapper for not making sure that his posse looked good and had enough bling -- while his posse members smiled proudly behind him and showed off their jewelry. That was the show. And there are two reasons I'm telling you this: A. I couldn't recommend "Maad Sports" any more vehemently. It's not possible. B. Either T-Mac is the most self-absorbed superstar in the history of the league, or this was a Chappelle Show skit and I never realized it. hilarious article...ive never heard of that maad sports show but i think i might watch it now just to see what its all about.
A little T-Mac bashing by Bill Simmons I really can't stand this guy...I like some of his articles but he's such a Houston basher. This guy needed an a$$ whipping during the Superbowl. This article is 33 reasons he likes the NBA this season. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/050111 6. T-Mac on "Maad Sports" That's the weekly sports show on BET ... When you lose, especially also admitting you didn't play hard afterwards, you will get tons of criticism. They only die out after you win. T-Mac is a really nice guy. His is a lot like Yao than most NBA players. These journalist will shut up after Yao and T-Mac won championships in the coming years.
Tmac looks like a modest guy to me. You may describe Kobe, Shaq, Amare self-absorb, but not Tmac. What goes on in Tmac's life is non of other's business. As fan, all we care is his behavior on the court, which is anything but self-absorb. And the other thing to remember, Tmac is still a kid.
Who the hell is Bill Simmons? This Bill Simmons guy won't change my view of Tmac. Tmac is good and cool.
you guys are all paranoid. Bill Simmons is a humor columnist who writes about sports. He'd be the first to admit, he's just a very lucky amatuer sports fan who got lucky and hit the big time. He doesn't have anything against Houston - unless it's comedy fodder. It's by far the funniest column on sports - anywhere. He takes shots at Houston, but he takes a lot more shots at his beloved Boston Celtics . . .or any number of teams. It's all for humor value.
T-mac actually is a little bit self-promoter. Anyway, did anybody pay attention to T-mac's interview on SI.com? He said Yao was a Rik Smits type of player.
If one of the members posted something like this here they would be vilified, and rightly so. Simmons' "humor" missed the mark by a mile this time.
That just about sums up T-Mac. It would not shock me if he talked about himself in the 3rd person T-MAC needs the ball!!!! Pass T-MAC the ball!! T-MAC needs to shoot this 30 footer RIGHT NOW!! Theres only.... 22 SECONDS LEFT ON THE SHOT CLOCK!!! T.I anyone?
I'm a huge Bill Simmons a.k.a the "Sports Guy" fan. I enjoy how he blends in sports with pop cluture stuff (like the "Maad Sports" show on BET). I get a kick out of this. I'm not offended by this, and I don't think any of us should be. As most people have already commented, he's just a sports fan who got the luckiest job in the world. I enjoy his stuff. And he is right about some of the stuff here in Houston. But seriously, that comment about how he couldn't tell if it was a Chappelle's Show skit........that had me rolling.
When TMac tells the truth, it sounds like boasting. How do you make "Uh, yeah, I can pretty much score 40 points anytime I want" sound modest? Seems like Tracy's frankness often comes off as boastful. Besides, I'm pretty sure this "Maad Sports" show encourages as much boasting and trash talk as possible. See: Li'l Flip.
I can understand you guys taking up for Tracy, but sitting here arguing that Tracy isn't a little arrogant or a self-promoter is like me arguing that Francis always plays smart. I mean come on. Read his quotes. Read how he blames everyone in Orlando for last season except himself. We are talking about the guy who left his first team to get out someone else's shadow. And Maad Sports does not encourage boasting. I've seen the show, its just the BET version Ahmad Rashad's show.
