Afaik, Scola's listed at 6'9, which is his Euro-league height. He's easily 6'10 with shoes. Idk about his wingspan, but I really think he's got a legit shot at stopping KG. He's got the tenacity, skills, and experience to spot KG unless Garnett starts getting BS calls in his favor. Really, I'm getting PISSED that Scola's always being labeled as just a "hustle player". Actually watch how this guy plays - all the fancy spins, excellent back to the basket plays, smart picks, the way he places himself on the floor; this guy guy is SO MUCH MORE that just a hustle player. He's our best power forward. Don't take things away from him just because he's 27 years old. HELLOOOO!?!?!?!?!? Euroleage MVP!?!?!? This guy played the highest level of basketball outside the NBA. He just needed time to adjust - hell, I still think he's adjusting, and he'll begin to show what he's truly worth when we actually play more around him. What are his averages again - in limited playing time, and not even being the focal point of our offense? These people just don't want to accept the reality that we actually have guys that are great NBA level players aside from Tracy. Still, given, Scola's gotta do a Shane on Kobe effort tomorrow night. I really don't Chuck even putting a fight against KG. He doesn't get a lithe, tall and agile assignment often, much less an All-Star that can stretch his game all the way to the perimeter. If I remember right, KG easily shoots over Chuck. And Tracy BETTER show up. That comment, 'let Tracy beat you', For all the smooth talk he's been giving lately, he still has a long way to make up for all the broken promises .
its funny how Tim Legler chipped in Allen's name as a wild card, i guess that would make Yao and Landry - domestic deuces. Already making excuses before the game is played
I LOVE the angle they took on this. Wow...what a change from earlier in the year. They didn't talk about how good/amazing the Celtics are. They didn't even talk about how tough of a game this would be for the Rockets. They spent nearly the whole time talking about what the Celtics need to do to beat the Rockets. How sweet it is!!! Anyone else notice this? Nice post, OP.
Well, Garnett is listed at 6'11", but I saw him last night against Duncan (also listed at 6'11") and Garnett's legitimately a couple inches taller. He's prolly 7'1" and has long arms. He's much more physically talented than Scola, imo. Garnett's not going to beat us down low though. That's just not his game. If Scola wants, he can keep KG out of the paint for the most part. Garnett likes to shoot jumpers anyway. He just doesn't have the personality to impose his will by demanding the ball every time down court. He'll pass out of the double team every time. Look at last night's shot distribution. Garnett shot 13 times, Pierce 15. Their PGs, Rondo and Cassell, shot a combined 31 (and made 16). I say you defend KG straight up and make him a jump shooter, and live with the results. Keep him off the offensive glass, too. Do that, lock down Pierce with Battier, and don't leave their shooters and we win the game. The 39 and 44 minutes played last night by their 2 stars is going to catch up with them in the 4th quarter.
Funny how people complain on TMac to stop talking. 85% of this board should do the same. We have won TWENTY TWO straight. What else are teams and the media going to talk about BESIDES "How to beat the Rockets?" There's enough love going around now. Even from ESPN. There will always be doubters. Let them doubt. What difference does it make to us as fans? Will it stop us from supporting the team? Will it stop us from watching and cheering them on? Will we quit once the streak is over? No, no, no, and no.
this one is pretty good. those are the exact 2 things to do to beat rox: 1. defend tmac's passing instead of scoring; 2. kg dominates in pf position. but i still believe!!
i completely agree with the comment "let t-mac beat you". lets face it. t-mac's not exactly the most efficient scorer. that would be one way of stopping us.
KG is going to be the largest miss-match the rockets have faced since yao went down. i expect KG to spend a lot of time on the block tonight...rather than the high post. since KG's speed won't be a factor there i expect deke to be on him early.
I think they actually have some solid suggestions on how to beat the rockets. Kudos, the might actually watched us play.
Battier on Pierce, play the other guys honestly, make the entry pass difficult, let Garnett get as much as he can against Scola, but double when it makes sense. Controlling Pierce on the perimeter and efficient rebounding is the key.
I kinda like the Rockets flying under the radar in the national media . Too much attention and hype can hurt a team sometimes (IMO) . You can bet though , when the Rockets finally end the streak it will be the top story on all the major sports shows , and websites .
Tmac hopefully shows up today. There was times during the lakers game where he wasn't playing hard on D.
