WTF???!?!
Crap, I should have guessed that Dumars had something going for him to fire Carlisle so randomly.

    DAMNIT!

Oh well, his loss. Detroit is poised to, well, be the 76ers for the next 5 years.

Carlisle fired after two seasons with Pistons

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ESPN.com news services

Fifty victories. A spot in the Eastern Conference finals. It just was not enough to earn a third season in Detroit.

Rick Carlisle was fired as head coach of the Pistons after two seasons, he told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher late Friday.

The team on Saturday denied that Carlisle had been fired, but Pistons president Joe Dumars scheduled a noon ET news conference Saturday at the team's practice facility in Auburn Hills, Mich., and Carlisle is expected to attend.

Carlisle's Pistons went 50-32 this season, the best record in the East. Detroit advanced to the conference finals before getting swept by the Nets.

Carlisle's agent said Carlisle intends to meet with the media Saturday. Carlisle said he doesn't know if he wants to pursue another coaching position or return to television.

Carlisle's impressive résumé with the Pistons also includes an NBA Coach of the Year award for the 2001-2002 season, his first season in Detroit.

Carlisle, 42, had one year remaining on his contract for $2 million. The Pistons decided they did not want to give him an extension.

The Pistons are reportedly interested in former 76ers coach Larry Brown.

It says here that the Pistons are only interested in Brown...we may still have some hope!

If we end up on the losing side of the Larry Brown sweepstakes, we have only ourserlves to blame. We decided to take our time and interview everyone available, thinking that we had all the cards in hand.

Just like I said in another thread, how long would larry wait for OUR decision? Not for long, I guess. If we came at him with all our guns blazing and acting like he was our man, he could be signed by now...

If Les and CD take too long we might end up with the leftovers.

    Fratello, anyone?

fatman510: that is an outdated article speculating Brown's interest in Detroit. I just now heard twice that the AP is reporting that Brown has indeed accepted the job. Praying that it's a false report (similar to the Van Gundy to Cleveland report...)

The NBA coaching carousel just got more bizarre Saturday. The Pistons late Friday fired Rick Carlisle, the coach that led the team to the conference finals. In a sudden turn, the Pistons plan to hire former Sixers coach Larry Brown.

Make sense, the management of Piston must have something on hand so they dare to fire Carlisle!!!!!!!

The piston job is more attractive, they defense good, they are in the east, they had gone to eastern finals and they have No 2 draft pick this year!!!!!!

Now things could be turned ugly for Rox, JVG to Cavs, Brown to Pistons. Seeems Dunleavy is more like to be our next coach.

Ric Bucher, senior writer for ESPN The Mag, was just interviewed on SportsCenter, and he said the following:

    * Carlisle fired, Brown must be in Detroit's back pocket as it makes no sense to fire Carlisle so quickly otherwise.

    * The only other legitimate interest for Brown was from Houston. The other clubs (like the Clips) were showing interest only after Brown first inquired. It looks like Houston was the only one courting him for real.

    * JVG pretty much now set as Cavs coach.

    * Silas' interview with Houston went well, but nothing spectacular.

    * Houston's second choice is actually Mike Dunleavy because the interview went so well; he jumped ahead of JVG after his interview.

We would be stupid not to give Carlisle and interview today already! Quit wasting time now Les, get something done. No more excuses like you are tired and need to really need to be patient, we heard enough of those excuses the last four seasons...

Monday & Tuesday is the day for nearly all the coaching decisions to be finalized, or at least the ones that really matter.

    Let's see...

    JVG to the Cavs
    Brown to Detroit
Silas looking more and more like Philly...
Dunleavy might get paid more and have more power in Atlanta with the new ownership...

I really can't believe they are going to blow this one so bad. Les and CD get on the phone and outbid anything Detroit might have offered.

I just can't seem to figure this one out. Carlise beat Brown with a less talented roster and he gets fired, while Brown leaves Philly to work with a clearly limited team? Don't tell me that the #2 pick is going to make the Pistons that good! He won't be GM... the only thing that comes to mind is that Detroit clearly made him feel more wanted than Les and CD did, and that they treated him like one of several options, while Dumars made clear that he was their man.

    Damn!

Pistons to name Brown as new coach Monday

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ESPN.com news services

The Detroit Pistons fired coach Rick Carlisle and will hire Larry Brown, a source within the league said Saturday.

Carlisle told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher that he was fired late Friday. The Pistons will replace him with Brown on Monday, the source told The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Carlisle led the Pistons to a 50-win season and a spot in the conference finals for the first time since 1991. Detroit's playoff run ended May 24, when the Pistons were swept by the New Jersey Nets in the Eastern Conference finals.

Carlisle said Friday that he didn't know if he wanted to pursue another coaching position or return to television.

Carlisle's impressive résumé with the Pistons also includes an NBA Coach of the Year award for the 2001-2002 season, his first season in Detroit.

Carlisle, 42, had one year remaining on his contract for $2 million. The Pistons decided they did not want to give him an extension.

Great post Thanos. Well everyone get ready for Mike Dunleavy, and another few more years of mediocrity.

    Why not?

If you already have a good team and add in a superstar prospect, it makes you a potentially great team.
