Just a few minutes ago, David Aldridge was on ESPN Radio and said something to the extent that he doesn't think there will be a problem getting Yao out of China. HOWEVER, he also said that in his opinion, Caron Butler is far and away the stud of the draft and he thinks we would be better off taking Butler and filling our need at the 3 because he is that good.

I'm pro Ming but also think that Butler will be the best player in the draft when all is said and done.

I think what Aldridge was saying about Caron Butler was he is the most NBA ready right now than any other player in the draft. He also see's Butler going to Cleveland at #6.

Its funny, I was listening to 610 yesterday on my way home and they had Micheal Murphy ( the Rockets beat writer from the Chronicle) and he said a similar thing. The thing I thought was weird was that has was all over the map when he was pressed by Pallilo of who would draft. The first thing he said was he would draft Butler #1 since he was the most NBA ready and said that Ming was 2-3 years away from being an impact. But the very next thing he said was Ming is good athletic and has incredible skills. He said Ming should be able to play well against most centers in the league....BUT HE IS STILL 2-3 YEARS AWAY?????????

Which is it? Is Ming ready or not?

He also said that if no really good trades are available, that the Rockets will draft Ming. Murphy then ranks the greatest centers in the league and guess what, he the top 5 ranked this way.

    1. (tie) Wilt, Russell
    3. Kareem
    4. Shaq
    5. Hakeem

Another reason why the Chronicle is Houston's leading source of mis-information. :p :p

While Butler is a great talent, I do not believe he is worth the #1. If we trade down and pickup some additional talent..maybe but I would prefer to draft Ming.

The Great Wall of China is coMING

I just don't understand all the fascination with Butler and calling him the favorite to win rookie of the year. Jason Williams was better than Butler in college, and he is better physically and athletically by far. I'll admit that the pre-draft athletic ratings have affected my view of Butler. I find it hard to believe that Butler was not trying hard on purpose, or that the report was a lie. Out of the 83 athletes who were tested he finished 68th!!! Now this wouldn't mean anything if he was a big man like Borchardt or Ming, but he's a small forward where a player's athleticism means a great deal! Based on what I've seen of him in college he is crafty and has great instincts, but I wouldn't say he has an uncanny ability to handle the ball, create shots for himself, or shoot the long range bomb. Apparently he's had some good workouts where he's been able to knock down uncontested shots consistently, but that's all it is...a workout!

Jay Williams...rookie of the year in a landslide.

DCkid I have to agree with you about Butler and his lack of athletism, that really surprised me.
