    Associated Press

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Indiana Pacers players will be charged for fighting with fans during the Nov. 19 brawl at the end of a game against the Detroit Pistons, Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca told The Detroit News.

"Whoever was involved in fisticuffs will be charged, regardless if they were wearing a jersey. It's obvious there were several Pacer players and fans that dealt blows," Gorcyca said, the newspaper reported Tuesday.

The prosecutor declined to say which players would be charged or what the charges might be.

Auburn Hills police Lt. James Manning told the newspaper that he expects four members of the Pacers to face assault and battery charges.

Manning said at a news conference Monday that a lawyer for the Pacers told detectives that none of the players would agree to be interviewed by police. Prosecutors could get the police report by the beginning of next week, Manning said.

The fight between spectators and players broke out near the end of the game after an on-court dispute over a foul. A fan hurled a drink at Pacers forward Ron Artest, who charged into the stands, followed by teammates.

Artest was suspended without pay for the rest of the season by the NBA; Stephen Jackson was suspended for 30 games, Jermaine O'Neal for 25. The players' union appealed those punishments.

Police determined that a fourth member of the Pacers, reserve center David Harrison, was involved in the brawl, too, but the NBA didn't suspend him.

I'll bet that the drunks who will eventually file civil suits all went home feeling fine that night.

They put on the neck braces 2 days later after some lawyers called them up.

No problem with that, as long as the idiot fans in the stands who continued to instigate the thing get equally harsh punishment.

Then let the videotape sort out who really did what.

Point taken, but Jermaine O'Neal is not a thuggish gangsta type player.

He is first in line to volunteer for any and all charity events. He donates time and lots of money on a regular basis, both in Indy and even back in Portland because he started being a good citizen back when he was a nobody riding the pine.

He screwed up this time. But he did not leave the court to go into the stands. He unfortunately punched a guy on the floor, but we don't know what was said and done to anger him.

Jermaine O'Neal is the only guy I'm defending here-- Artest and Steven Jackson were much more responsible for what happened.

Jermaine O'neal SUCKER punched a fan, he took a running start and hammered him in the face, if he did not slip as he was making contact it could have been another Rudy T situation.

J O'neal was arguably the biggest offender of them all, the rest at least were getting hit...J O'neal was a cheap shot punk !!

everyone needs to spend some time in jail..

I agree that normally JOneil is a pretty good citizen but he threw the hardest punch (that connected)..

when people fight in the streets its usually the person that did the most damage that goes to jail regardless of who started the altercation.

you cant have the mentality someone starts it but I'll finish it.

NBA players are required to do charity work. It's just one of the fake ways the NBA promotes it's players and product to the next generation of fans. And for the money he donates, can you say tax break? Sure it's nice that he and most of the rest of the league do these things, but I'm not going to give them that much credit because it is part of their job.

O'Neal didn't make it into the stands, but it wasn't for the lack of trying. He was kept from making it into the stand by other Pacers personnel. Like Dakota said, he sucker punched a fan. The fan already got what he deserved from Artest. O'Neal basically kicked a man that was down. Sorry, but there is no defense for his actions. He deserves to be lumped in with Artest and Jackson and I hope they are all punished to the full extreme.
