Ben Wallace was an all-star because of his combination of strength, athleticism, intelligence, and determination. Dorsey may have a similar body, but he doesn't have the same focus. I'd be very happy if he were right in between Ben Wallace and Reggie Evans.

Dorsey can be a Ben Wallace if he learns to play bigger than he is.

Yeh but havent yall heard? He is "lazy", "takes plays off" and "isnt intelligent" according to some of the posters here.

I really think this kid is going to help this team alot especially when we play Utah.

Dorsey's job as a rookie if he makes it onto the floor is will be to cut off guard penetration and defend the pick and roll since the NBA has become the "small man jumping into big man to get the call" league. If he's successful with that then whatever else he does will be chocolate icing

Hey, I love Joey. He was a huge defensive presence for Memphis and they really suffered whenever he sat, even more than when CDR did. But Wallace plays much smarter defense and avoids cheap fouls.

It's the difference between Battier and Marion's defense. Marion's defense is great, but relies on his athleticism. If Battier had Marion's body he'd be the greatest defender of all time.

I agree that he can help, and I'm pretty excited about his potential. But as usual, alot of people have gone overboard with comparisons. Let's see the kid play vs. NBA comp first before we decide. Before he was drafted I don't think a single member of this site had given him a second thought, and now suddenly he's the next Ben Wallace.

I get a feeling Chuck Hayes is going to be moved. I just don't think Morey plans to keep 2 defensive specialist at the PF/C position. Dorsey at least can finish around the basket. Hayes does know how to cut well though.

I think so, as well. I think the Rockets may be able to scoop up one of the extraneous point guards in Memphis and Chuck's interior defense and low salary might be an attractive part of a package for them. I'm excited by Dorsey just for his ability to match up better with Boozer and Amare.

Amare, amere....he has been our killer especially last season. Scola is not quick, athletic and strong enough to stop him, neither is Landry.

But dorsey is damn strong and athletic so hopefully he will shut him down

Duncan can't even stop Amare. I think the only players in history that possibly stop Amare from getting his is Dream and Russell.

Dorsey is a bully, a borderline thug...and I couldn't be happier we got him. We needed someone like him to show teams like Utah and San Antonio that when they get rough we're not going to stand for it, that we'll have someone willing to retaliate if need be. Beyond that, his ceiling is a mystery to me. The fact that he has one and that we haven't seen it yet is all I need to know.

Hayes is a good defender and all, but the jump in offensive efficiency Dorsey will bring via the alley-oop dunk vs. the wide open lay-up is probably gonna be too much to make Hayes a viable rotation player anymore.

You obviously don't remember how Wallace was thought of when he came out. He barely even made the team in Washington and was traded to Detroit as a secondary player just meant to make the deal work. Wallace learned how to play and it took him a few years to do it.

I think Dorsey can be a very good defender if he could learn to avoid foul
    troubles.

How long did it take BEN WALLACE to be BEN WALLACE?

    In Orlando . . [I thought he was good then] . . .
    But he blossomed in Detroit

he fits perfectly alongside Yao. He can leave the slower but taller players to Yao on defense and take care of the slashing wings that Yao sometimes has trouble keeping up with. And he would be a good fit at center if you want to play small. He basically gives us versatility on defense. Now, we have two excellent team defenders , battier and dorsey, who will chase down those penetrating guards hopefully. Maybe battier can take the charge while dorsey goes for the block or vice versa.
