    Chat wrap: Marc Stein
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to ESPN.com's moderated chat room. On Monday, October 28, ESPN.com Senior NBA writer Marc Stein hit chat to field user questions.

Stein joined ESPN.com in September 2002. He is also a frequent contributor to ESPN The Magazine and makes weekly apperances on ESPNEWS and ESPN Radio.

"I'm picking Yao Ming (for Rookie of the Year). Seriously. Gooden will certainly have better numbers and looked very NBA-ready the night I saw him play, but if Yao performs reasonably -- and makes it through all 82 or close -- he's got a good shot at my vote."

I think Yao Ming has as good a chance as anyone to win it. I know the fashionable pick is Ginobili but I think there are a number of players that have a shot. Remember all that Caron Butler talk for ROY right after the draft? Where is that now? Drew Gooden had a great pre-season (but might not start). Amare Stoudamire had a great preseaon. Jay Williams looks to have a decent year.

I think it will be wide open! I think if the Rockets record really improves, they make the playoffs, and Ming has decent stats then he will get the award. I think "Team improvement" is a big deal for the voters to see the "impact" of the new player on the team.

Jay Williams will probably have the most minutes out of the bunch since he took crawford's starting job...

Best of luck to Yao for ROY!!

This is probably one of the best rookie classes in recent years. Ming will have a lot of competition.

Its hard to predict who will win ROY right now since no regular season games have been played yet... but I do believe Yao will have a good shot at it.

Ming definitely does, especially since the center position is so weak right now

It is very hard to judge ROY now because as we all know most rookies who are expected to have a solid season usually hit the rookie wall. Personally I think it's better to hit the rookie wall early in the season and have the second half to really show what you can do. So I think it's incredibly hard to even compare now for ROY. But still my vote go to Yao.:D
