#chadfordinsider Breaking: Knicks agree to trade Darko to Wolves for Cardinal http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4922587 The New York Knicks have a deal in principle to send Darko Milicic to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Brian Cardinal, two sources with knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com on Wednesday. The two sides have yet to formally complete the trade and have a trade call scheduled for Thursday morning. Assuming nothing changes overnight, the deal should be officially consummated in the morning. The trade will save the Knicks $1.8 million and give the Wolves a center to audition for the rest of the season. Milicic has been mired at the end of Mike D'Antoni's bench for months and has publicly said he's likely to return to Europe to play basketball when his contract expires this summer. The Knicks plan to waive Cardinal in an attempt to clear another roster spot to facilitate a potential deal that would send Nate Robinson to Boston.
Well, Darko has a bigger contract than Cardinal, and they're both expiring...so deal works better for the Wolves I guess.
So, how does that impact the Rockets deal... Knicks shed a little more salary... how much more do they need to drop for two Max FAs if the Tmac deal goes through?
I imagine Walsh was on the phone with Morey and this happened: Morey: Maybe you're right Donnie, perhaps-- Walsh: Hold on a sec, Daryl, I have another call. Morey: Don't you put me on hold, you inferior. Don't you dare-- Walsh: *puts Morey on hold* Hello? Kahn: Hey Donnie, would you mind swapping Milicic and Cardinal with me? I might actually give Darko some minutes! Walsh: Sure, whatever. Kahn: Thanks, buddy! Walsh: Later. *picks Morey back up* Still there, Daryl? Where were we? Morey: I was just telling you how I want your first rounders completely unprotected. Walsh: What? Weren't we about to-- Morey: You put the wrong general manager on hold. Unprotected. Now.
wow talk about a blockbuster! this will be mentioned on sportscenter only because its new york made a deal,
both players have expiring contracts so that doesn't free up any more money for the knicks this offseason. it just saves them a little this year.
