I really dont think money is the issue there (whatever reason Dolan has,its not short of cash).

Still it will be interesting when Melo opts out

Dude is a spiteful man, Lin was dead to him once he 'went back and reworked the offer' which didnt even happen

Come to think of it,Knicks did have loads of PR to clean up the damage at that time.

Oh well, seems like most of their fans have give up their season.

Melo is in the class of the above. He forced his way to NY when NY was pitiful. I've seen no proof that Amare couldn't get max elsewhere. Tyson isn't in the same class (barely), but he choose NY when there were better teams available (iirc).

Tyson is a lot better player than people give him credit. He is basically Asik on defense except he's probably the most efficient catch-dunk-free throw shooter in the league.

Houston isn't the worst free agent location, but Houston needs a good team to help. D12 came to a team with Harden. Harden came to Houston because of the Money. TMac came when Houston had Yao.

The Knicks can afford to pay Bargnani $10 mil and J.R. Smith's bro $2 mil to play in the D-League, but they balked at potentially having to one day pay Lin $15 mil as a tradeable expiring contract?

And now, they're desperately in need of a non-sucky, non-elderly, and non-fat PG.

If Lin got hurt, his $15 million contract would have cost the Knicks about $70 million in salary and luxury taxes, iirc.

That's not even Knick media -- that's Brian Windhorst. He's as plugged in as they come, and writes without bias.

That means the Knicks really, really think this.

Any player can get hurt. Using this logic, you shouldn't sign any player ever.

Most of their players don't have any value anyway.

Any player can get hurt. You do not sign a player that you know you have to trade because it is financially not beneficial to keep. Lin is not worth more than Lebron James. The Knicks basically hid from Morey's courier trying to buy time so they could figure out a way to absorb Lin's contract.

Stop being such a tin pot yokel.

Why do you think LeBron even bothered to listen a few years ago even though it was still a Dolan clown show? Because it's NYC, that's why.

Why do you think they ended up with Stoudemire and Anthony after Houston tried and failed to get both multiple times?

The last time prior to the Dolanization of the Knicks was when Allen Houston and Larry Johnson signed there in the 90s - they were both all stars in their primes.

People actually do like to go to NYC, Cletus, its just that the franchise is a capped out mess. Really this isn't hard to see.

They traded for Larry Johnson, and didn't sign him.

And Allan Houston was their third choice after being turned down by both Jordan and Reggie Miller that summer. And Chris Childs was the fallback plan after both Tim Hardaway and Gary Payton turned their money down. It wasn't like they owned that summer.

Translation: He hasn't found takers on any of his trade proposals.

This makes no sense. Teams take risks all the time, giving players contracts that are too long because they think that's the only way that they can get them NOW. Do the Rockets really think that Howard will be worth max money 4 years from now when he's 32?

And you never know what'll happen 3 years from now. Maybe the Knicks find a taker for Tyson's contract. Maybe Melo gets traded for draft picks. Maybe Lin becomes really good and is worth overpaying for 1 year, especially since you'd have gotten him for $5 mil the two years prior.

LeBron James' contract is a very poor standard to use because he famously took a pay cut to go to Miami with the Big 3. Even then, he still makes around $20 mil a year, which is bigger than $15 mil.

As a big Lin supporter, I'm only ecstatic that Lin was able to escape the black hole that is NYK. But they treated him like garbage and I'll always laugh at their failures for that.

lol Rondo's not big on the media and attention, why would he want to come to NYC to wait for 2015 when the C's can draft a lotto player, sign a max guy in 2014 and do the same thing the year after?

LOL, i know there's a sliding scale but no way it slides from costing you 70 mill for being 15 over.

That said, do you see the rest of salaries? Like I heard elsewhere, this is like the elevator collapsing due to weight and you blame the guy the last guy that gets on who weighs 145 pounds.

You forgot one: he amnestied Billups after initially picking up his option, which is the reason they are still stuck with amare's contract
