Looks like the man's trying to get paid. Nothing wrong with that. Although I highly doubt he's gonna end up anywhere else other than Washington. They'd be stupid not to resign him. But it would be interesting if he signs with another team. He did after all event Gilbertology. I wonder how long it'll take for someone to nominate him in the GARM.

I wonder if the Wizards are going to entertain offers for him because he's made his intentions known. I bet some of those lottery teams wouldn't mind swapping picks and players for Agent Zero

I don't know why he's letting the world know of his intentions this early. I don't think this guy even cares about winning. He's more into his personal goals of silly revenge and getting paid.

It would be interesting if this season he gets injured like Grant Hill did and suck on his contract year.

If the Wizards lose Gilbert they will go right back into the sinkhole. Unless he and Eddie Jordan conflict again, I'd say it's 95%/5% he re-signs. Even if things flare, the Wizards will dump Jordan to keep Gilbert. There are very few NBA players who work as hard on their game.

I don't like that he's making this intention known now. He has an entire year before he can opt out, so why make this announcement now? It seems like it'll be distracting for his team if all next season people are talking about whether or not Gilbert Arenas will be with the Wizards after the season.

I liked him in the beginning but I really grew to dislike him when he started opening his mouth and claiming all these silly "revenge" for that Olympic cut.

If he gets the word out early it allows teams like the Magic or Hawks to make sure they have adequate cap accommodations to make a run at him. Maybe it keeps the Hawks from looking at Randolph. If Arenas waited until the last second those teams might be maxed out and his big contract options will be gone. How does him wanting to test the waters equate to not wanting to win? There is nothing the Wizards can do to contend.

Bonzi could have benefitted from that approach last year

Bingo. That's the main incentive in leaking something like this a year ahead of time. It gives a team like the Magic second thoughts on aquiring Vince Carter and instead convince themselves to hold out for the younger guard. Other teams have until the next trade deadline to unload any decent players with bad contracts to contenders in order to better position themselves.

    Washington Trade Breakdown
    Outgoing

    Gilbert Arenas
    6-4 PG from Arizona
    28.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 6.0 apg in 39.8 minutes
    Incoming

    Juwan Howard
    6-9 PF from Michigan
    9.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.6 apg in 26.6 minutes

    Rafer Alston

    Successful Scenario
Due to Houston and Washington being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Washington had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    Get it done, Morey!!

It doesn't really matter. It is not hard to predict which players will opt out and which ones will not. Right now, Arenas is on a trajectory toward being able to command a better contract if he opts out -- so he will opt out. It's not rocket surgery. If next season goes really badly or he tears an ACL or something, he won't opt out, even though he said he would. So, he's saying the obvious, and it is always subject to change.

Ha, if Arenas gets moved to the Rockets, might as well trade Yao, cause he'll never touch the ball.

Anyways, I think his "testing" the market strategy is for the attention and maybe to rub it in on the teams who passed on him again.

Can't blame him, a man has to look after his own good after all, besides its not like a team hasn't traded a player because of "its just business", so why is it such a big deal when a player does the same.
