"Brian Billick" and "offense" do not belong in the same sentence. Baltimore is 26th in total offense this year. Last year, they were 31st. The year before that? 21st.
Billick is living off of that one year in Minnesota when he had Randy Moss, Cris Carter and Robert Smith. Throw in a veteran quarterback with some mobility and that offense was explosive. He hasn't been able to capture any of that in Baltimore and despite the presence of a mammoth offensive line and a power back that had a 2,000 yard season, he's been unable to develop a reliable quarterback. And people think we should hand over the reigns to Carr to him?
Not sure about those two, but I would like to have an offensive minded coach in here. It would be nice to see just a little creativity and risk taking on the offensive side for once.
I would take Mike Martz only if we draft Reggie Bush. Bush would be amazing in Mike Martz system. I also like how you can get any QB off the street and he'll become a amazing player in his system. I'm okay with bringing in Martz. His offense will make the Texans enjoyable to watch for once. Bob McNair would like that.
This might not be possible, but I would like to see a proven Offensive Coordinator and staff along with a proven Defensive Coordinator and staff coached by a proven Head Coach. Wait... That's a pipe dream. In this day, as soon as an Offensive Coordinator proves himself, he is hired as an Offensive centric head coach. Same goes for Defensive Coordinator. Caper's has never been anything more than a defensive coordinator and he isn't even that now. The Texans need to take it old school.
He did take a team to the Super Bowl as a head coach only to lose to New England. I just want to see a guy who will bring an exciting brand of football to the Texans. We need it.
Of course he did--the year after the old man left, and wasn't it with most of the old man's staff still in place? (I might remember that all wrong.) Martz has overseen the decline of the Rams. Superbowl or no Superbowl, that doesn't exactly thrill me.
I'm not really sure how much control he had for the Rams, but obviously we would need to bring in a GM that would be able to get the type of players in place that would excel in Martz's offense. I wouldn't want Martz coming in as a combo HC/GM. I would also want a established defensive coordinator to come along with him.
sure, let's bring in a guy who just drove another franchise into the ground. put martz on the list, too - another gem of a coach. hopefully, the texans snap a much wider shot of the potential cnadidates than wading through the nfl's recent unemployment filings.
I don't blame Mooch for what happened in Detroit at all. Millen should be canned first and foremost, 3 High 1st rounders spent on 3 Wide Receivers? They had a ton of holes that needed filling and they didn't get one done. Martz is a different story, I never really liked the guy, but if you need offense, he can certainly give you that. Billick being mentioned w/ offense is just laughable. I'm still holding out for the Houston/Jeff Fisher reunion.
This is why there's no point in firing Capers and (possibly) Casserly now. You wait till the season's over and the pool of head coaches out there becomes bigger and more intriguing. And despite the team's current floundering status, we'd be an inviting destination for any coach, because we have an owner who wants to win and will do what it takes, a talented young core, a diverse city and huge fan base (itching for a winning team). And this team needs a well-rounded coach... not someone as defensive-minded as Billick or offensive-minded as Martz. Personally, I too would like to see a possible Jeff Fisher return. Or Jimmy Johnson. And I'm sure there's other just as capable, lesser-known, potential candidates.
