Youve got to be kidding me... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/index breaking news story on front page. For a freaking future first round pick and we couldnt offer that to them.
i dont think they overpaid.. the cavs will not be a lottery team anytime soon playing out in the L-East.. So giving up a pick around 20 will not be to high of a price and with the nba fixing to change its drafting policies
well, imo it doesnt look like JVG is very keen on playing rookies unless hes forced to, and i dont think we will be having any lottery picks for the next few seasons unlees some catastrophic injury occurs.
Jiri Welsh isn't a PG. There was hope that he could be at first, but that idea was a bust. He's third-rate version of Ginobilli, and would do nothing for us other than bring Barry and Wesley their cups of Gaterade. xiki is right - he's not worth a first, unless you know your pick is going to be one of the last in the first round. Evan
Keep in mind, the Cavs gave up a 2007 1st rounder. Not a 2005 or a 2006 1st rounder, but a 2007 first rounder! Would the Rockets be willing to acquire a PG for a 2006 or 2007 1st rounder? They would get their man AND keep THIS YEARS 1st round pick. Cavs got their man with a 2007 1st rounder and earlier this year the Pistons got Arroyo with a 2006 1st rounder.
jiri welsch is another one of don nelson's busts. if it weren't for dirk, nellie would have been gone long ago, the mavs are lucky they were able to part with welsch when they did.
Jiri still isn't a point guard - he's been a wing for a couple years. I like what we did. 2 second rounders and Gaines for James. We keep all of our first rounders. What would be interesting though, is if the minimum age goes into effect in the new CBA, 2006 (when age limit goes into effect) and 2007 are supposed to have wretched drafts. Maybe makes trading that pick easier for the Cavs. Evan
To me, this potentially even makes the deal worse. I know the draft age rules may change somewhat, but even then a 20-30 pick is still a 20-30 pick. But if it was this year, you know that's where it would end up. In 2007, anything can happen. The Cavs could just be mediocre. Lebron could have a season ending injury early in the year. This year, Cleveland is currently slotted at 23...for their sake, I hope they still put some kind of lottery protection on the pick.
