For weeks, it was believed that for as much as teams were inquiring about Kevin Martin to the Kings, they weren't interested in trading him.

But as the trade deadline neared, the team ended up parting with him to the Rockets, in the three-team deal that sent Tracy McGrady to the Knicks.

And even though Martin had struggled quite a bit since returning to the Kings lineup after injury and trying to play alongside Tyreke Evans, Rockets GM Daryl Morey was still quite interested in Martin.

    But why?

"According to Morey's evaluations, Martin has been one of the NBA's most efficient scorers in the last 30 years," writes Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle. "He's the only player who has shot 40 percent from the beyond 3-point line and averaged eight made free-throws a game in the course of an entire season. And he has done it in two of his six NBA seasons."

Martin seems to be rounding back into form as well: he's scored 33, 32 and 28 points in the last three games for the Rockets.

    Martin is a Morey guy

"Carl Landry is about as good as Martin, but the deal makes so much sense for the Rockets because it gives them a more productive roster. Houston was desperate for a wing who could get his own shot and space the floor. Martin answers both challenges. The stat-savvy Rockets undoubtedly have noticed Martin's astronomic true shooting percentages (better than 60 in four of the past five seasons). He gets his points without dominating the ball and should thrive from open looks when Yao Ming returns to health next season. He's also familiar with Rick Adelman's system, having played for him in Sacramento."
