Here is an article from today from ESPN Insider: Would you trade for Fernandez if possible, or just let JT ride out the backup SG position? It's hard to say because I'm not sure how well Taylor will perform this year, but he could be even better than Fernandez because he brings defense and plays above the rim. Fernandez is also good insurance as a 3rd PG or in case Martin gets sidelined by injury.
keep JT... Fernandez and Martin have two similar styles of play and JT provides a nice contrast offthe bench
Fernandez is b****ing about a lack of PT behind Roy. Obviously Martin is no Roy, but Martin would take precedence over him. If anything, Fernandez needs to find a team where he can fight for the majority of minutes at the swingman spot via bench or starting and that's definitely not here. Perhaps Chicago between Deng & Rose, or Boston as Pierce and Ray's backup for about 25mpg.
Not for a first round pick no. Maybe a second round pick 5 years from now that falls within the range of 50 to 55.
I like Fernandez. I think he's capable of more than he been entrusted to do so far. But, the Rockets don't need to be concentrating on picking up more role-players right now. They need to trade for a big gun.
He'd be good trade filler of we traded just a 1st rd pick for him. My idea: 1st rd pick + $ for Rudy Then (December/January/February) Fernandez, Battier, Hill for Igoudala/Granger
I don't think the knicks will be any better this year, so I wouldn't give up the first round pick for a bench player.
A first and JT, for Rudy...sure.... And then flip him at the deadline with another expiring if Martin proves his worth, if not, flip Martin. DD
In all honesty, if Im Morey I try my hardest to make deals with Portland that do NOT make them better or give them more assets for the future. The Blazers are the one team that has a nice outlook for the next five years plus and will be major competition for the Rockets in the playoff race for the next few years. That being said, if the trade will upgrade our team dramatically, of course we pull the trigor, but in this case giving up draft picks and a future prospect in Taylor is not worth Rudy F. And we also make the Blazers better by letting them deal away a player who does not want to be there and giving them more assets as if they need more.
Sure, he could easily be a minor upgrade to the roster or trade package. If a good deal is there, Morey should probably do it. I'm just not interested now. Also, beware of treating Fernandez as a mere trade chip. If you don't show him the love, he'll probably go back to Europe. Then the trade chip won't be worth much.
